War: What is it Good For?
So here we go, war in Iraq.  What's happened so far?  Well, at first it seemed like there was no resistance.  Hooray, they don't want to fight us!  Now, we realize that it's not going to be as easy as we thought.  Just like the Evil Empire in Star Wars, always undermining the resistance...  Except Saddam Hussein is hardly a Jedi...  Alright, bad analogy, but honestly, did anyone but me think this war was going to be harder than we originally thought.  What, they aren't throwing down their weapons and letting us democracize them?  WHY NOT?!?! Could it be because we're invading their homeland!? Could it possibly be that they don't want a democracy?  No, can't be, if it's good enough for us, it's good enough for anyone.  Forget the fact that they don't have a society rooted in Democratic ideals and freedoms, we're too busy being ignorant thinking that everyone wants McDonald's and Abercrombie and Finch to realize that maybe, just maybe there are people on Earth who don't want to be another product of the Americanization of the world.
Now that we've established that this is going to be a bit tougher than expected, we can also deduct that this will be quite expensive.  That's right, kids, the man that has killed our economy and is projecting a trillion dollar deficit over the next few years is leading us into an expensive war.  That makes me proud to be an American, how about you?  Let's just think about those oil wells we'll get at the end of this, that is if the Iraqis don't burn them all first.  And lets forget the drop the stock market has taken as a toll of this war, we'll be damned if we can't exercise our right to go into other countries and kill people despite what those damn Euro-fags say.  We're American, the nationality of Jesus.
Now, let's talk about the consequences of this war.  The International resentment, the skyrocketing membership of Al-Queda, the responsibility of us to rebuild Iraq, the split it's caused within the nation, all these have been COMPLETELY ignored by our lovely and talented president in every address or press conference (note: singular) that Mr. Bush has had.  He'll go on repeating himself about how Iraq is a "threat" (because our president is a firm believer that if you say it enough times, it becomes true.  Forget about reasoning), yet he always avoids this question of the consequences of our actions in Iraq.  He will discuss the rebuilding of Iraq, and how the new Iraq will be governed in a way the people want, yet he'll contradict himself by talking of bringing to democracy to Iraq.  Last time I checked, those are not necessarily the same things.  But even with this talk, I wonder if anything will even be done for Iraq.  In Bush's proposed budget ZERO dollars is going in to rebuilding Afganistan.  Makes you wonder... And then, what about the Kurds?  We'll probably just forget about them and let them continue to be persecuted.  Sounds like a true humanitarian effort to me.
Now, all this shit that's happened in the U.S. since Bush took office probably would not have been nearly as bad if Bush hadn't treated the presidency like kingship.  In the past, the president would ask Congress for a declaration of war.  Now, Emperor Bush just does what he sees fit.  Checks and Balances? Separation of powers?  What's all this crap, it's the President that leads the country.  That is, of course, if you wish to even consider him a president.  The majority of the population didn't vote for him, he basically stole the office, and he's expanded his executive power beyond that of nearly any previous leader of our country, that doesn't sound like presidency to me, sounds like autocracy.  He get's what he wants, even if it screws the economy, the country, or international relations.  He breaks nuclear arms treaties, goes to war without consulting Congress, and chokes on pretzels (I don't care if it's not relevant).
What scares me is the president's high approval ratings.  Does anyone remember the time before Bush, when the economy was awesome, we didn't have another terrorist threat every month, the air was cleaner (damn SUV's and their unchanging emissions ratings), and the nation was somewhat unified.  Now, for whatever reason, the guy that has screwed our country is better liked than the guy who screwed an intern.  Seriously, what is worse.  Now with this war, I've become even more disillusioned with our government, the American people, and the future of our nation.  Maybe it's partisan politics (I HATE blind party-following loyalist fools.  I disagree with the idea of political parties), maybe it's plain stupidity, or maybe it's this American ideal that if you have a problem with someone, you can just get rid of them to end the problem.  Forget working things out.  That's why we have such a high crime rate, that's why we have school shootings, that's why Bush's approval rating is so high, and that's why we have war.

Now, some people have bitched at me about my rants saying things like "You're not allowed to have an opinion"  or something like that, and "all you do is bitch without giving any solution!"  Well, if you need it spelled out for you, I guess I'll do so (because you haven't figured it out already, Steve), How about we DON'T go around invading other countries as we see fit, despite huge international disagreement.  I think taking down Saddam Hussein and his evil sons is a just end, but war is not a just means, the time isn't right.  Happy now?  What, you think none of my rants give any solutions?  Maybe your stupidity hinders you from getting the ENTIRE POINT OF THEM, DUMBASS!!! Stop calling two flavors that taste the same different things, and fight internet lingo (or, if you are a practicioner, kick your ass)  Happy now, that I had to fucking spell it out for you?  But then again, that's what I'd expect from a dumbass republican.  Fuck you.
