Audi's first Le-Mans entry was with this R8R and its sister coupe version the R8C in 1999. The coupe version had all sorts of problems but the R8R showed promise in its first outing at Le-Mans. After the 1999 season the coupe program was binned to focus on the roadster and with success as the R8 won the next two Le-Mans races.
