Feb. 11, 2004 - The pups are in their cutest stage (well.. they've always been cute, but still) and they are eating a lot more solid food and I think they have finally found out how to use the water bottle. They will be weaned within the next 1-2 weeks. And soon they will be going to their new homes :(. It seems like there isn't much of a market for gerbils around here, probably because most parents think it would be too much work, when gerbils don't require much work at all! I mean, how could you go wrong with an $8.00 (cdn) pair of adorable, low maintenance pets? I'll find good homes for them eventually, but this is one of the reasons to stick to my plan of sepparating Phoebe and Squeaker :'(

Feb. 7, 2004 -
The pups are 3 weeks old today. they are starting to eat adult gerbil food though they won't be completely weaned off Phoebe's milk for at least a week. I still haven't gotten around to recharging my camera batteries, so i apoligize once more for the lack of recent pictures of the pups.

Day 17. I *think* all the eyes have opened except for one of the PEW's. She'll be opening her eyes any time now! They are wandering around the tank quite a bit and are starting to show interest in solid food, though they aren't eating any yet. I have observed that one of the agoutis is a tiny bit darker than the others. Maybe the other two have a recessive "e" gene that makes their fur more yellow? I haven't been taking any pictures of the pups lately because the battery in my digital camera died.. stupid technology...

Feb 3, 2004 -
Day 16. The first eye has opened!!! Their growing up so fast *sadness*. One of the agouti boys has his right eye open at the moment, and more might open later today.

Day 12. The pups are starting to look a bit more proportioned now and their tails are growing longer and more furred. They are starting to wander from the nest a tiny bit. I wasn't so sure before, but now I think Enna is an argente golden instead of an argente creme. She is a bit darker than Squeaker. At the moment, Squeaker is digging madly in the same corner as the nest, so he is kicking the pups everywhere! heehee

The pups are 10 days old today. There are 3 agoutis (one of which looks a bit darker than the others..?), 1 argente, and 2 PEW's(?). I examined each of the 6 pups and i think all the agoutis are males and the other 3 are females. I gave them temporary names as well - the agouti boys are named Tim, Tom, and Charlie; the argente girl is named Enna (as a request from a friend by that name); and the two PEW girls are named Keiko and Theo. Sadly, I am going to retire Phoebe and Sqeaker, so I will keep Charlie and put him in a tank with Squeaker, and I will keep Keiko and put her in a tank with Phoebe where she can help raise Phoebe's next (and last :'( ) litter.

Congratulations Phoebe! Today Phoebe gave birth to her first litter! she was right on time and she had 6 beautiful pups. Three of them have black eyes and three have pink eyes, I think. I wonder what colours they'll be? I'll keep you updated as the pups grow.

Phoebe is starting to look pregnant! She will be having her first litter sometime next week. Just in time for school exams... lol. Phoebe's been eating and drinking and sleeping a lot lately (which is normal). I will have to clean the cage before she gives birth.

Jan. 9, 2004 - I gave Phoebe and Squeaker a sand bath today. They STILL don't get it! you're supposed to roll around in the sand! Lol, i guess they'll figure it out some day.
