When zeon advances into the Africa continent, her soldiers are greeted by a harsh desert environment which many never face before. The hot and sandy hell soon take it's toil on many of the soldiers and mobile suits. The high temperature cause equipments to malfunction and sands find their way into the mobile suits.

In order to ensure mobile suits ability to perform in the new environment, Zeon engineers begin to develop new variant of zaku2 mobile suit for operation in the desert. The new variant is given the designation of MS-06D.
