Quote
"There is an often-expressed fear that technology will replace teachers.  I can say emphatically and unequivocally, IT WON'T.  The information highway won't replace or devalue any of the human educational talent needed for the challenges ahead: committed teachers, creative administrators, involved parents, and of course, diligent students.  However, technology will be pivotal in the future role of teachers."

Overview
Welcome to Mod three
Many teachers have embraced the new technology, as you are doing, and have some wonderful ideas to share.  In this mod we will explore good website design, and experience fabulous homepages and lessons created by our colleagues.  It is no longer necessary to sit down every Sunday night and re-invent the wheel, creating all of our own lessons from scratch.  We have literally thousands of lessons to choose from at our fingertips, for free.  In the excitement of discovering all the resources out there, we must also be aware of copyright law, netiquette, and cyberethics.  We also need to pass on these standards of good web behavior to our students.
Readings
Some websites are black and white, some are colorful and attractive.  This course website is very colorful, and sometimes may be too busy.  I tried to load it with many features so that you can see what you will be learning (yes, you will be able to do everything that you see here.)  Ultimately, you will decide how much you want to incorporate into your own site.

A
Rubric is always a good way to judge the good and bad points of anything.  Use this rubric to evaluate a few of the teacher-created web pages you see in the "Surfing" section.

Cyberethics is the new catchphrase for accecptable and ethical behavior in cyberspace.

Netiquette is the term used for polite and  "correct" behavior on the Internet.

Surfing
Teachers have created amazing websites.  Check out a few of these:

Mr. Donn's page for teachers (remember, the easiest way to get back to this page after clicking on a link is to use the back arrow at the upper left of your page
Mrs. Hickey's page
Mrs. Grody's page

Mr. Lawrence's page

*note-Mrs.Hickey's, Mrs. Grody's, and Mr. Lawrence's pages above were created in  my workshops; you will learn how to create a homepage with all the "ingredients" that they have used!
Assignment
Turn in via e-mail a 100 - 150 word essay on the "Readings."

Review at least 2 of the teacher created web pages and include this with your essay.

Remember, do not send your homework as an attachment, just write it in the body of an e-mail.

Type "Mod 3-comp.int.-your name" in the Subject line of the e-mail
