| First and foremostly: this site is NOT about an asian pop star. Not even a little bit. That pop star has chosen the name of an old New Zealand pie restaurant named (of course) Georgie Pie. This pie company was to pies what McDonald's is to burgers... not a pie went unnoticed in this fantastic fast food restaurant. Many a time I had the opportunity to indulge myself in a pie from Georgie Pie (many a time their Chicken Nuggets also), and as a child I ran amuck in their playground adorned with pictures of their trademark characters on the wall, only one of which I can remember the name of - Chip. Once Georgie Pie also managed to poison me with an undercooked chicken pie... but I choose to block that memory. Georgie Pie was a place where Chicken Nuggets and BBQ sauce went hand in hand on the edge of the sand. It was a place where the lines were so long you had to wait half an hour to be served. It was a place with a carpark disproportionately small for such a restaurant. Now though, it is the Blood Donor Centre. No longer can children (under the age of 16) run amuck in its playgrounds. No longer can you eat Chicken Nuggets with BBQ sauce (however you are entitled to some watered down cordial and a ToffeePop after you have given them your blood). No longer do cars hang out onto the street in a line waiting to get into the carpark. None of this happens now, and all there is to show for this wonderful pie-haven is my hotmail address and some far away pop star who doesn't understand english. Sad, sad times my friends, very sad times indeed. |
