Georgi Kinkladze is one of the most skillful Georgian players of all time. Kinkladze started his career at small Tbilisi club Mretebi Tbilisi before moving onto Dinamo Tbilisi where he really made his name. Kinkladze was sent on loan to German side Saarbrucken due to the political tensions in Georgia. Kinkladze impressed despite playing only 11 games before a short spell in Argentina with Boca Juniors. Kinkladze returned to Dinamo Tbilisi and was signed the following season by English side Manchester City after two superb displays against Wales in EURO 96 qualifying matches. Kinkladze was an instant hit at City with his dribbling and ball skills setting the premiership alight. However Kinkladze couldnt keep City in the Premiership and they were relegated to the first division. Kinkladze stayed loyal to City for two seasons in the first division but when they were relegated to the English second division Kinkladze decided to leave. There were no shortage of takers for Kinkladze and he decided to join his friend Shota Arveladze at Ajax. However Kinkladze's spell at Ajax quickly turned sour after he was told to play out of position on the left wing. Kinkladze was eventually dropped after just 12 appearances for Ajax and he joined Derby County on loan before a permanent move to the midlands club came about the following season. Kinkladze started to play better at Derby and was the supporters player of the year in his last season at the club 2002-2003. Derby offered Kinkladze a new contract but it was on considerably lower wages than his previous contract and he decided to leave the club. KInkladze was linkied with Scottish Clubs Dundee and Celtic but nothing came of it and he is still looking for a new club. |
