Dinamo Tbilisi began their quest for a place in the UEFA Cup with an emphatic win over Estonian side TVMK Tallinn in Tbilisi. Dinamo, without star midfielder Vladimer Burduli, fielded a largely inexperienced line-up for this qualifying round, first-leg match with Vladimer Akhalaia making his debut.
The home side started the game at a quick tempo and were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area after only six minutes when Anton Mokolenko pushed striker Georgi Mikadze. Brazilian midfielder Carlos Da Rocha duly stepped up to score with a well taken set-piece to give his side an early lead. Under pressure Da Rocha continued to torment the Estonian defence, who could not cope with his pace and skill, while Dinamo's Georgi Anchabadze and Vladimer Akhalaia controlled the midfield battle.
Dinamo took full advantage and moved two goals ahead in the 15th minute when Vitali Daraselia chipped visiting goalkeeper Sergey Ussoltsev following a strong run and pass from Archil Sakhvadze. Skipper Georgi Shashiashvili then made it 3-0 two minutes before half-time following a corner.
Shashiashvili headed home his second and Dinamo's fourth just after half-time following a Georgi MIkadze cross. With the game seemingly won, Dinamo took their foot off the gas and allowed TVMK to grab an away goal in the 69th minute, Liivo Leetma beating Dinamo keeper Irakli Zoidze with a speculative 15-metre shot.
