| Rati Aleksidze began his career at top Georgian Club Dinamo Tbilisi where he stayed for four seasons playing in the Georgian league. Aleksidze scored 33 goals in 71 appearances. Aleksidze began to attract the interest of foreign clubs and English side Chelsea invited him over for a trial. Chelsea were suitably impressed and they signed Aleksidze halfway through the 1999-2000 season. Aleksidze endured a nightmare stay at Chelsea and he made only 3 appearances in all. 2 in the Premiership and 1 in the UEFA Cup. Aleksidze announced he wanted to leave Chelsea in 2001 and he went on trial at German side Nurnberg however they decided not to sign him. Aleksidze then saw a move to Sheffield Wednesday fall through due to work permit problems and he was eventually released by Chelsea in September 2001. Aleksidze announced he would return to Georgia only to play for Dinamo Tbilisi however they didn't seem to be interested in him initially and it looked like he would sign for rivals Torpedo Kutaisi. However Aleksidze asked if he could train with Dinamo and their manager Ivo Susak was suitably impressed and signed him on a 1 year deal. |
