Pin Shoots

Third Sunday of the Month

Lake Ave Georgetown

Beginning of 2007 Pin Shoot Season - Read this Letter kicking off 2001 season for rules etc. First Match Sunday April 16th

Dear Member:

The Pin Shoot season for 2001 will begin on Sunday, April 15 at 1:00 PM and continues monthly on the third Sunday of every month at 1:00 PM.

If you haven’t participated before, pin shooting is an excellent way to practice shooting under a little pressure.
Each relay has six shooters who pay $3. Each relay has three rounds. In the first round, all six shooters will be individually timed as they compete in three heats of two shooters. Each shooter brings his/her pistol/revolver to the shooting position with several spare magazines or speed loaders. Each magazine or speedloader has six rounds - no more. At the buzzer, each shooter will fire at five (5) bowling pins set on a table about 25 feet away. The object is to knock ALL the bowling pins off your table. Clean hits will easily knock a pin off the table, but glancing hits may only knock it over. Then you have to use extra shots to knock it off the table. Obviously, accuracy pays off. If you miss more than once, you will have to reload to knock all the pins off the table. This also gives you practice reloading under pressure. Your time is determined by a timer with a stopwatch.
After all six contestants have fired, the six times are compared and the worst two times are eliminated and the four remaining contestants shoot round two. The worst two times in round two are then eliminated and the remaining two shooters shoot off “for the money”. The winner receives $6 prize money as the relay winner. The best times of the day are saved and a prize is given to the day’s “Top Gun”.
Usually, 7-10 relays are completed before everyone runs out of ammo.
Most shooters use a .45, a .44 Special/Magnum, or a .357 Magnum. Anyone using a 9mm or .38 or smaller caliber receives a handicap - the pins are placed closer to the edge. Plan to bring $20+ or so and 100-200 rounds (depending on your accuracy). The event usually ends at about 3-3:30PM.

IF IT IS RAINING ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT, WE WILL ALWAYS HOLD THE EVENT ON THE FOLLOWING SUNDAY.

We have a friendly crowd and everyone enjoys these events. We hope to see you.

Sincerely,

Scott E. Butler
Vice President
