John Bull John was the Captain of the Betsy Ann Riverboat.That's long gone now. John plays a pretty mean blues harmonica. Catch John and his band at the Eastside Grill. Robert Orr is the guitar player, and he is fabulous! Lee High School - Class of 1965. Keyboards with the Rocking Gibraltars. Attended Auburn University, until the band signed with Reprise Records, and went to California, with a new name: "Heart," which had no connection to the later, Wilson sisters' band. The RG's also took with them to California a new singer, Johnny Townsend, fomerly with The Rubber Band and The Magnificent Seven, from Tuscaloosa. Her father, Frank Tennille (pronounced ten-ul), played with Bob Crosby. He owned Tennille's Furniture Store on Commerce Street in Montgomery.. Her mother was Cathryn Wright, host of "The Guest Room" on WSFA-TV in the 1950's. Toni played piano and sang on her mother's TV show. Toni was a vocalist with the Auburn Knights at Auburn University. "Big Mama" Willie Mae Thornton allmusic.com A Montgomery native who found fame in California. According to one man who knew her in Montgomery, she could "fight and cuss like a man." Israel Tolbert (Popper Stopper) allmusic.com Israel had an R&B hit in 1970 with "Big Leg Woman (in a short, short, mini-skirt)". The tune stayed on the R&B charts for 11 weeks, peaking at #13. Israel died April 18, 2007.
