Artist Essentials
My name is George Nyman and I have recorded my first CD, TREASURE CALLED LOVE, at the Lion's Den Studio in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I wrote all of the songs performed on this CD which was released on October 28, 1999 at the West End Cultural Centre in Winnipeg. Dan Donahue is the producer, and he and other Winnipeg musicians are featured on this recording.

I am a self-taught guitarist who began writing songs as a teenager. The songs which I write are created from the roots/folk genre and are influenced by several songwriters sho are well known in the music world (e.g. John Hiatt, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Tom Petty). I have always had a strong devotion to music and developed my singing abilities through voice training from Winnipeger Phyllis Thomson, as well as through ongoing participation in the Oxford United Church, St. Andrews River Heights United Church and Winnipeg Philharmonic Choirs. In addition, I have attended CAMMAC's summer music programmes in Quebec, and songwriting workshops offered by Songwriters Association of Canada.

My life as a songwriter/guitarist has primarily focused on composition and less on performance. I was born in the United States and am now a Canadian Citizen. I moved to Manitoba from Ontario in 1985 and have developed a strong attachment to the lifestyle of Winnipeg and Manitoba. The prairie presence is evident in the CD song titled "Twinkle In Your Eye."

All of the songs on the CD encompass a wide range of feelings related to the theme of love. The song "What Good Is Love" deals with love relationships that fall apart whereas "A Wink Is As Good As A Kiss," "Pebbles In The Sand," and "Need Your Love" focus on the longing for love. The title song for the CD, "Treasure Called Love" depicts love as the treasure that all human beings are seeking throughout their lives. Through the theme of love, all of the songs on the CD have a connection to the title track.

My decision to record a CD was influenced by the positive responses received when performing live concerts at the coffee houses and when jamming with other musicians. In addition, Dan Donahue, who is viewed as a highly gifted producer and musician examined each song and helped evaluate the feasibility of recording a CD.

I hope you enjoy TREASURE CALLED LOVE.
