WINNER of the JFK Assassination Site Award (logo pending)
Here it is -- the "amazing story" of Abbott Vaughn Meader, the man who
became the fastest-rising comedy star in American history
by recording "The First Family" in 1962 showcasing his dead-ringer
John F. Kennedy impression. His phenomenal success was -- fittingly --
a brief shinning moment, as his career tumbled to the ground a year later because of
a national tragedy.
Lenny Bruce best summarized the comi-tragic course of Meader's life when he said: "They put two graves in Arlington -- one for John Kennedy and one for Vaughn Meader." Since November, 1963, Meader has honored a pledge to never again do his Kennedy voice as a comedy act, despite constant pleas from friends and fans to rekindle the Camelot spirit.
Today, Meader, a Grammy-winning comedy star who made the fastest selling record in U.S. history, lives contentedly in Hallowell, Me., just outside the state capital of Augusta. His fame is a distant echo, but a visitor -- like you -- occasionally calls up his spectacular "shining moment."
