South Uist and part of Lewis
Richard Davies Stornoway - Uig Cycle Route

Stornoway - Uig Sands (West Coast of Lewis). 33 miles one-way, 66 miles round trip.

Of the many routes to cycle in the Hebrides, this one starts and ends on one of the busiest roads in the town of Stornoway but compared to mainland traffic, its all relative. You may see a few cars and have to pull over on the single track out in Uig but this is rare and the views and freedom found along the route from Stornoway to Uig sands is worth any amount of effort this 33 mile journey takes.
Hebridean Long Distance Cycling Route
The best thing about the Hebrides for cyclists is their geography! Nowhere else in Britain will you find a chain of islands so completely different to anywhere else and also so unique individually. The great thing about an archipelagos group of islands is that each island is so close to the next one but radically different in scenery, cultural traits and wildlife. Cyclists can hop through the chain in no time and tick off the islands they have traversed while feeling like they have seen a whole country.
South Uist   -  Benbecula
If you are going north the A865 is the way to go but the minor roads are well worth exploring.

Causeways join South Uist, Benbecula and North Uist. The car ferry terminal for South Uist is at Lochboisdale, though you might miss this out if you are cycling north from Barra. There is a food shop and a hotel providing bar food at the junction at Daliburgh (Dalabrog). South Uist is the hilliest of the Uists and the road has a few easy hills as it works north. There are possible diversions west on lovely little back roads and you might like to include these loops in your route if you can manage a few extra mi
les.
