| Innerleithen The tiny Borders town (population: less than 1,000) has been taken over by mountain bikers. In recent years the surrounding area has become a mecca for cyclists, and, if you pass through the town itself, you're more than likely to come across a throng of mud-spattered cyclists hanging in and around the town's biggest shop, Bikesport All this and the best ice cream your ever tested just the thing after a screaming down hill. |
| Tweedsmuir start: Gordon Arms, Yarrow Valley distance: 51 miles OS map: 72, 73 A longish route but pretty well all on road, apart from some optional detours. We travel through some of the finest that the Southern Uplands has to offer and take in what must be one of the steepest climbs in southern Scotland to reach a high point of 450m at the Megget Stone. |
