Wine in the Bible
Should Christians Drink Alcohol?
Pastor George C. Bruns

The word wine as used in the Scriptures is a generic term much like the words meat and corn.

Meat - food; sometimes it means flesh (Gen. 27:4), sometimes it means vegetable matter (Gen. 1:29).

Corn - grain; sometimes it means wheat (Jn. 12:24), sometimes barley (2 Kings 4:42), etc.

Wine - juice made from a fruit most often grapes; sometimes it means fresh squeezed directly from the grape (2 Chr. 31:5), sometimes it means an artificially processed alcoholic beverage (Gen. 9:21).
