Tip of the Week 37

When welcoming someone to a place, the basic expression is
'fàilte gu .'

e.g.
Fàilte gu Dùn Eideann Welcome to Edinburgh.

Generally, though, 'you' are included in the greeting, and this may be either:

'Fàilte romhaibh gu Dùn Eideann' A welcome before you to E.

or

'Fàilte oirbh gu Dùn Eideann' A welcome on you to E.

And, of course, there's always:

'Ceud mìle fàilte!' A hundred thousand welcomes!

More next time!
