Tip of the Week 18

The word 'cho' should only be used for 'so' when it precedes an adjective or an adverb. e.g.
Chan eil e cho àrdanach a-nis.
He isn't so proud now.

Cha bhi seo a' tachairt cho tric a-nis.
This doesn't happen so often now.

Note that when 'cho' precedes an adverb the 'gu' is dropped.

When 'so' means 'accordingly', 'therefore', thus' there is a variety of expressions, the simplest being 'mar sin'. e.g.
Tha an obair deiseil. Mar sin tha sinn a' dol dhachaigh.
The work is finished. So we are going home.

You could also use ' air an adhbhar sin' 'for that reason, hence, therefore' e.g.
Tha an obair deiseil. Air an adhbhar sin tha sinn a' dol dhachaigh.
The work is finished. So we are going home.
