GRAHAM`S LAMENT
There isn`t any justice--it`s got to be a fix
LONDON has rejected me for 1986
On my entry envelope there was a sticker with regrets
So I won`t be at the red start with the virgins and the vets
I won`t produce adrenalin down in Greenwich Park
Or run beside the river Thames or past the Cutty Sark
It really is depressing and enough to make me sob
I`ll miss the view from Tower Bridge and the interview with Bob
I won`t be heading eastwards, into the Isle Of Dogs
Or share my sponge with Spedding as along the road he "jogs" Racing through St. Katherine`s Dock and past the ancient sloop
I`ll wonder if I would have been within the leading group
I won`t be on the radio I won`t be on the box
I won`t be with the "also-rans" down through London Docks
The thought of The Embankment is more than I can take
For without a doubt that`s the spot I would have made my break
Chris Brasher you are heartless, I bet you just don`t care
That I won`t receive deserved applause through Trafalgar Square
The Queen will be disheartened---Princess Diana too
When I don`t pass the palace gates and Chris it`s down to you
David, Ron and Brendan will find it hard to talk
When I`m not there to make the pace up through Birdcage walk
The finish on the telly will just give me the blues
So I`ll go and dig the garden (I`ll wear my running shoes)
This LONDON situation Chris, has made me so despondant
I could divorce myself from running--with you as co-respondant
There is`nt any justice--it`s got to be a fix
LONDON has rejected me for 1986 !!
