Fluctuations
When Smith Road Chippy shut down the builders got to grips
And they soon ripped out the counter and the fryer for the chips
They filled a skip so quickly; they didn’t have a care
And before too long the job was done, the shop completely bare
Some Asian chaps appeared next day to build a new Chinese
And Markwright kept an eye on them while he was cutting keys
These Chinamen were workers, and boy they really hurried
And Markwright had inkling that his cat would soon get curried
They couldn’t speaky English but their work was right on course
And he worried that they’d like his cat with sweet and sour sauce
Then one day while mixing plaster they incurred old Markwright’s wrath
When the Chinese Boss was summoned he told Markwright to Fluck Off!
That really got his back up so he declared a war
And he plotted and connived against the Chinese shop next door
He consulted his solicitor and sent for the police
He boldly pulled out all the stops to frustrate the Chinese
They started on a lean-to at the back of Markwright’s shop
So he shouted from his window “That Fluckers got to stop!”
“You can’t erect a lean-to and obstruct my right of way”
“I’ve been on to the council and they’re coming out today!”
The Chinkies dropped their shovels and they flucked off in their van
And Markwright had a visit from a council planning man
They suspect that the lean-to was really living quarters
For an average Chinese family with thirteen sons and daughters
So Markwright beat the Chinese, and things are going fine
And he drives down to the main road when he wants a sixty-nine
And Vanessa is so proud of him; she thinks he’s really brill
“This is Paul Carey, for News at Ten, Markwright One—China Nil!
