A little male Chickadee was back on his perch on the fence singing his little heart out. This year he found a mate and they raised four little ones! I was so lucky that I happened to be near the nest box when the babies were ready to leave the nest and I watched each little one take their first flight. Unfortunately I didn't have the camera with me. Here is one shot taken earlier when the parents were bringing food to the young. I couldn't even count all the trips they made back and forth to the nestbox; they worked from sunup to sundown feeding their babies.
A sad postscript - in the Fall when I cleaned out the nest box I found one little baby that had not made it. After the other babies left the nest this little one was left behind. Perhaps it was too weak to even try to leave the box. |
