Acid Rain The presence of pollutants in the atmosphere which turn rain acidic.

Alternative Energy Sources of heat and power which can be used instead of fossil fuels; many are refered to as 'new' , such as wind and solar power.

Fossil Fuels Sources of heat such as coal, oil and natural gas. Made from the remains of plants and animals. They are non renwewable because they take a long time to form.

Finite Resources
Resources which exist in  limited amounts; once they are used up they will not be renewed for millions of years.

Global Warming The theory that the average temperature of the Earth is rising as a result of higher concentrations of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.

Green Tourism (Eco tourism) Tourism in which the protection of the environment and the way of life of the local people are considered to be very important.

Natrional Park An area of beautiful scenery and relatively wild countryside which is managed for conservation of its beauty and for visitor recreation.

Non-renewable A resource that can only be used once and then it is used up examples are fossil fuels.

Ozone Layer damage A hole in the layer of ozone gas high in the atmosphere, through which unfiltered rays of light (radiation) can reach the surface.

Recycling Recovery of waste products to be converted into materials which can be used again e.g. scrap iron for the making of steel.

Renewable Resources Resources which are naturally replacedafter use so that they can be used again and dont run out e.g. Tidal or solar.

Sustainable Development Activities and economic growth with a good future because the environment opon which they depend is not being destroyed.
