Cows On The Lawn
City takes wandering holy cows
Wednesday, May 28, 2003
A famed Lockport author has lost his holy cows.
Lockport officials rounded up the cows, owned by Geoffrey Giuliano, from their 735 Market St. temple Monday after police received reports that the cows were running loose.
Lockport Mayor Thomas C. Sullivan asked the dog control officer Joanie Black of Ransomville to remove the two cows considered sacred under Giuliano's Hindu religious brief.
"The animals look like they were being neglected," a police report said. "The house and yard were also neglected."
Sullivan said residents were worried for their safety because of the size of the two cows.
"Since I've been here, they've been loose at least a dozen times," neighbor Rick Simmons said. "It's getting ridiculous. They just let them run loose."
Simmons, who lives at 721 Market St. with his mother, heard the cows crunching around his front yard and went to push them back onto the property. When he went to get his boots from the back yard, he found one of them chewing on the grass. After chasing it from behind his house, Simmons noticed a child riding his bicycle on the sidewalk.
"They scared a little kid riding his bicycle," Simmons said. "He fell of his bike while trying to get across the street, through traffic, to go around the cattle in the street."
Giuliano, who also goes by Geoffrey Juliana and the Hindu name Jagannatha Dasa, will be issued a citation for the violation.
Giuliano, who is reportedly in Bangkok, Thailand, for health reasons, could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
But in a press release e-mailed to the Lockport Union-Sun & Journal, Giuliano claimed Monday's action was part of a long pattern of discrimination by Lockport police against himself and members of his group.
Cows on the lam

Lockport author and Hindu Geoffrey Giuliano's two cows may be sacred, but they've
apparently been acting up in recent months.
But the cows apparently have had good reason to raise a little ruckus, mainly hunger and
thirst, according to Mayor Thomas C. Sullivan.
On Memorial Day, the cows escaped the confines of Giuliano's Market Street property and
temple and found their way to Widewaters Marina, causing some neighbors to worry about
their own safety and that of their children, according to police.
And since Giuliano apparently has been away in Thailand for some time, Sullivan said the
city had Animal Control Officer Joan Black place the cows, held sacred by the Hindu
religion, in a livestock trailer and incarcerate them at an undisclosed location in the
Ransomville area.
Sullivan, however, said the cows are being well cared for and have even been seen by a
veterinarian. The animal doctor told city officials the cows "are 250 to 400 pounds
underweight. They weren't ill but underfed," Sullivan said.
In an e-mail from Giuliano, Sullivan said the Hindu leader said the cows were supposed to
be cared for by a local resident while he was gone.
For the past 10 years, Sullivan said, officials and neighbors have been looking the other
way even though Guiliano has been keeping the cows on his property in violation of a city
ordinance that prohibits farm animals within city limits.
Giuliano will have to pay any fines that might be due when he returns and must reimburse
the city for expenses incurred in caring for the cows, including room and board.
"I want to give the cows back to Giuliano when he returns, but he's going to have to
locate them somewhere outside the city from now on," the mayor said.

PADA correction -- Mahavegavati dd retracts her statement that Madusudani rdd (CHAKRA) is
allied with Puripada. Mahavegavati was told by Jagganatha dasa (Puripada) that Madhusudani
was his ally and friend, but that is not the case. Madhusudani is not allied with Puripada
in any manner and indeed he has been denied access to posting on CHAKRA. We are sorry for
any inconvenience caused by this error.

5) PADA's DIVINE PROGNOSTICATIONS COME TRUE UPDATE
SANAT (Steve voith) and Mukunda (Oldham) COWS SEIZED BY GOVERNMENT?
... (Puripada?) "I am trying to save the lives of two cows. I was obviously wrong in
thinking that would be an issue devotees of Krsna might bee interested in. The govertment
is now taking devotees cows unlawfully from their properties and charging huge sums to get
them back or send them to slaughter. You guys are so off, you are quite right, it is a
waste of time trying to enlist your aid. Keep playing devotee and say "Hare
Bol". You jounior varsity boys keep sitting on the bench. Don't worry, leave the real
go-seva to to guys like me. Remember, when they send those two cows to slaughter you would
do nothing tgo help. Newsflash! You have heard so much nice instruction but have
understood nothing. I hope Krsna one day opens your heart and I hope your lack of intrest
in helping these cows causes you no eternal difficulties. You will never hear from me
again. This is not Srila Prabhupada's movement anyway and EVERYONE knows it. Have fun
PLAYING devotee kids!
Jagannatha Dasa (Puripada)?
[PADA: Is Jagganatha dasa (Puripada) working with -- the Sanat and Mukunda team? Great,
that means Sanat/ Mukunda can attract some bogus gurus -- especially those with very
dubious backgrounds -- to their cause -- but not the Prabhupadanugas? We also warned Sanat
BEFORE HE MOVED TO ANGELICA that his cows could be in danger YEARS AGO, and that their
being seized COULD in fact occur if he failed to have the proper land use permits. For
example, when Sanat first mentioned to us on the phone that he was moving to Angelica, he
said had no proper authority or land use permit to keep cows on his new property. But! He
said not too worry since the Y2K bug would destroy all Angelica's computers and there
would not be any problem -- breaking the laws after the year 2000, since the police would
be trying to keep the food riots down in major cities and there -- would not be any police
left in Angelica.
And we said all along --- that Y2K bug or not, Sanat needs to have the proper permit or
his cows -- COULD BE IN TROUBLE. In other words Sanat and Mukunda have based their whole
strategy all along of getting things done on the hope that they can IGNORE and BREAK the
LAWS of the state, just like the GBC thinks they can break the laws and base their
strategy on that platform. These idyoots even told me to quit working for the karmis and
stop having a legal job, in a town where I was lucky to have any job at all, yes, become a
homeless bum and, lose your children -- to the state! Same idea. And Mahatma dasa of Los
Angeles (Mario Pineda) agreed with these idyoots.
No. Prabhupada said we have to FOLLOW the laws of the state... ? Prabhupada never said,
buy some cows, and then keep them illegally, and then create a huge publicity media
scandal by intentionally flaunting the laws. This Sanat and Mukunda simply want to ruin
the reputation of the Krishna devotees, and they have done that. There are thousands of
"animal protection programs" all over the state of New York and they all get
good media/ press and they all have a good reputation since they know that they have to
rent or buy their own land for their own animals FIRST and not rely on some Y2K bug to
grab their land -- illegally? Therefore this whole "cow crisis" was created
artificially since Sanat and Mukunda ALREADY knew they are: ILLEGAL!
We also told Sanat's supporters like Naranarayana dasa that the cows were indeed in
jeapardy and so -- rent some legal land for the cows, again, as we said YEARS AGO. But no,
Sanat is getting welfare handouts, SSI handouts, housing voucher handouts, which is fine
except now they want a free cow protection program hand out so they can advertise they are
great animal protecters, without having to do any actual work like: having facility for
cows. Umm, this is the same as the GBC's disease, they also wants a free hand out of guru
certificate so they can falsely advertise themselves? And now "cow protector
certificate," great. Gita Nagari part two. Again we would not mind except they have
intentionally created a publicity scandal and they are intentionally trying to ruin the
reputation of Krishna and Prabhupada as law breaking hand out seekers. thanks pd
City mooving on holy cows
Wednesday, August 6, 2003
By David Winters / Lockport Journal
The fate of Srimati Nandini Devi Dasi and Govinda Dasa could be known next month.
The two cows, confiscated by the city on Memorial Day because they were running loose from a Hindu temple at 735 Market St., will have Lockport City Court Judge David Wendt decide what happens to them.
Neighbors have complained over the years the cows have been running loose from the Hindu temple.
City attorney John Ottaviano said Tuesday following the court appearance, he would like to see the cows either auctioned off, sold or donated. Killing them is not an option he wants to consider.
A court date of Aug. 19 is scheduled, when Wendt may issue warrants for several members of the organization, including Jagannatha Dasa, a former local author also known as Geoffrey Giuliano.
Ottaviano said he'll consult with the Niagara County District Attorney's office about which people will be issued warrants.
If no one appears for the next court date, the organization will forfeit the cows and the court will make a ruling on their fate.
The city served notice to SRI Radhe International Inc., the secretary of state and several of its board members in early July for Tuesday's court appearance to answer the zoning ordinance violation for having livestock within the city boundaries, Ottaviano said.
Holy cows given short reprieve

Srimati Nandini Devi Dasi and Govinda Dasa are staying put -- for now.
Prosecutors want to make sure they're properly serving SRI Radhe International Inc. before moving forward with court hearings on the two cows, said deputy city attorney Deborah Walker-Dewitt.
Tuesday's court appearance was canceled when Judge David Wendt could have issued warrants for several members of the organization, including Jagannatha Dasa, a former local author also known as Geoffrey Giuliano.
Dewitt said no new court date was scheduled, and further review is being done to ensure all legal steps are correctly taken, including talks with the Niagara County District Attorney's office.
City attorney John Ottaviano said previously if those served with warrants fail to appear for their scheduled court date, the organization would forfeit the cows and the court would make a ruling on their fate.
