I am writing this in the summer after your birth. It is the middle of the night and I awoke wanting to get these thoughts on paper. The year 2000 may not end up being an especially important or unique year but it is a year fraught with potential. It is a year that has been awaited with great anticiaption We have been waiting for this year with both a since of pending doom and with great expectiations.
Your probly grew up hearing about the dooms-dayers expecting the end of hte world, the apearance of the Anit-Christ or the second coming of Christ. The year is not over and those things may still occure. I doubt it but if they do this woin't matter, you won't be reading it anyway.
I personally never put much stock in the dooms day predictions. I alwawys looked to this year with joy and hope. My childhood was spent waiting out the storms of change that was the 1970's in the safe harber of a small midwetern city. In the busum of a loving, busy, working class famiy. From this safe harber I looked to the future through the window of time called science fiction. Which in the '70's and '80's nearly always looked tot he future with expectation of good and great things for humanity. I hope your own childhood has been spent with the same feeling of love and safety that I experienced.
You are now grown and are hopefully a credit to your generation and tmes. I hope you can look back at the items in this package and get a glemps of what the world was like when your parents decied to bring you into this world. They like I viewed the world with hope and joy and anticipated that the world you and your brother would inherit would in many ways be better than than the world you were brought into. There are millions of us working to make this world a better place and what you inherit will be the test as to whether or not we succeeded in our goals. |
