| This past weekend was a fine one all the way around. Summer here in KC has been hotter earlier than normal we got a well received break from the heat starting mid week. Though it began to warm up again by the weekend it ended up still being better than what we have had. It was back in the 80's the temp. That is normal for this time of year. Though the humidity was still high (we have had the highest humidity in the country on several occasions this summer) we still felt as if we were getting some relief. I took advantage of the fine weather and opened up my apartment. It was Friday before I really got the house under control from the water problem of the preceding week. By Saturday I was ready for a break. I didn't do much of any thing all day. I had made plans to go to an early dinner and to see "Planet of the Apes" with a couple of friends; my friend Bruce, recent graduate from the university and Bill a professor of theology also from the university. They arrived right on time and we walked from my place to the Palace Theatre right there on the Plaza. We were also going to eat right there at a pizza place so we went a head and got our tickets for a later show and went to an early dinner. We had just sent in our order when Bill became very sick. We ended up canceling our order and rushing him home. I have yet to hear how he is doing. I hope to get some news later today. After dropping him off back home in Lee's Summit Bruce and I stopped and had Chinese there instead and then headed back to the movie. Now About the movie: We got to the movie a bit late and were fortunate enough to miss the previews and commercials. The last movie I went to had over 20 minutes of previews and commercials and most of that time was commercials, so I wasn't disappointed. The only problem was seating. When ever you go to the first night of a blockbuster movie seating will be a problem and will only be compounded by being late. We ended up stage left in the third row. I have mixed feelings about the movie itself. The action and the costumes were unbelievable. If you are familiar w/ the original 1968 movie you will remember that the apes mouths were not that malleable and that the characters stood almost as straight as humans. In this version all of the apes, excluding the ruling class really looked like the next generation of apes, not as if they skipped two or three stages in evolution. When it comes to the ruling class I must say that I was very disappointed they looked way to much like humans. I also was disconcerted by the sexual chemistry between the lead human and the lead female chimpanzee. Bestiality no matter how you disguise it is not my thing. |
