Last entry: Aida w/ Alma
As I said July forth  was going to be a full day for both of us. Using all three of my alarms we were able to get up in time to shower dress and leave on time. We headed up to the air port and I dropped Charles off. I don't know why but he never wants me to wait there for his flight. Even though I was heading out of town and he would be unable to get a hold of me if his flight were significantly delayed or canceled.  I then headed back out on I-70 to first stop at my parents in Jeff City for breakfast, half way between KC and St.Louis then planned to join my sister that afternoon in picking up her daughter from pre-school.  For the time I would be in town my sister planned on taking off from work but leaving her daughter in preschool so we could have time together and to sight see. Though she has now lived in St. Louis for two years she had yet to see some of the sights.

I didn't get for from the airport when I started to have problems. First I noticed that though I was going about 65 the speedomitor registered -0- on second glance I also noticed that the odomitor wasn't turning either. It took me a second to soak this in. My first thought was a possible problem w/ the cruise control as I had just engaged it. So I took the cruise control off and waited a moment. Things went back to normal so feeling a bit uneasy I proceeded.  I didn't get more that five miles down the road when it all happend again. This time I pulled off the highway and tried to decide what to do. By the time I got off the off ramp things were back to normal. I then decided I was tired and not thinking straight so I would stop for some breakfast and go back to the apartment to call my parents letting them know I was having problems and that if I wasn't there in three hours to send some one down I-70 to retrieve me.

That done I once again got back on the highway to continue on my way. Well I got as far as the first exit to Blue Springs, the eastern most suburb of the city when it happened again. If I had been smart I would have stopped right there and went back, but I was deturmained to get to my parents and on to my sister's so I decided it would be a good time to stop for gas then decide.  I got gas then back into the car and it wouldn't start. Great more trouble. I tried it again and still nothing. Finally a guy stopped and gave me a jump.  Did I then head home. NOOOOO. I decided to continue on. So back on the road and guess what happens, you got it it all started up again. This time as I was stopped at a light at the last exit into Blue Springs it died.

Now what to do?

So now I'm stuck at the edge of Blue Springs, with out a cel-phone and unsure what to do. Where I am stopped there is no easy way to get out of the lane of traffic. I'm at the end of an off ramp without any shoulder anywhere in site ahead of me. There is shoulder behind me but it would mean pushing the car uphill. There is empty space all around me except for one place. Just across the way is a Burger King, thank G-d. I go over there and try to think who I can call. I first try Andy, he lives out in Overland Park but I am sure he would come to help. Unfortunately I get his voicemail. I wait a few minutes cursing my bad luck, bad planning and pour decision making. I then try again and still his voicemail. Who else can I call. David? He lives in Indepence which is on this side of the city, but he is currently without a car. Alma, I decide is my next best bet. So I give her a ring. Luck is with me this time she is home just getting ready to head to her mothers for the day. She tells me she will be right out. I know that I have a wait of at least an hour. It is about 8:00 in the morning and it is already getting quite warm. I don't want to wait in the shop, afraid I might miss her so I decide to stand out doors to wait. Waiting in the car is out of the question. My windshild is facing east and I would fry in there. So I get a book out of the car, buy a dring and wait in the shade of a sign.
