| This show was certainly not one of my favorites from this season (in fact, it's probably my least favorite show out of the first six this season). The only clever thing about The Present Long Ago is the title. It seems that quite a few Odyssey fans are tired of hearing Trent and his African-American side-kick (or vise versa) week-after-week. I do not agree with them. The more times a character is used, the more one gets to know the character, which hopefully means the more one likes the character. Trent and Marvin are fine character and if the writers want them to stick around, I have no problem with that. But, about the show...I think it's got something to do with Bob Hoose; all these love/ hate shows. Either you love the show or you hate it; that's what many of his shows are like (Called on in Class, True Calling, and The Present Long Ago all prove my point). Of course, a few people might be inbetween, but not many. I think I dislike this show more than I like it. I'm tired of hearing this sort of show. It doesn't work anymore with Odyssey. Again, I think I haven't really got to the episode...I don't like it how it is set in the future. This aspect of the show really annoys me. It makes Odyssey seem even more unrealistic and I don't really like hearing what's going to happen in Odyssey before it has happened. For one thing, it means that the character won't be sticking around (I don't know how I came up with that). For another, it seems like we're seeing into some crystal ball-I don't like that. So, the show started off pretty poorly and didn't really improve from there. One thing almost every fan liked about this show were the spoofs. I'm not "almost every fan." I didn't like the spoofs. I'm not into television very much, so I didn't get much of the jokes and only laughed at one (one about Arnie being president or something), not out-loud. Also, it is getting annoying to have lots of imaginary situations in Trent's head. It just doesn't work for me. The Mandy+Trent thing-I always thought, ever since trent was introduced to the world of AIO, that they were perfect for one another. Imagine my surprise and complete dizziness when Mandy's granddaughter says that she married Max (also, imagine why a granddaughter wouldn't know the first name of their grandfather)! But, I was fine (and actually pretty pleased) with the match-up, but I didn't really want to know that before it happened. In conclusion, The Present Long Ago is a truely original show. It is a show that will, perhaps, become a fan-favorite. But it just doesn't sit well with me. The lesson, sound effects/ music, and storyline did not excite me. I hope that one day I will be able to re-listen to this show and completely enjoy it. |
