| Isn't Odyssey Sings the show you've been waiting to hear on AIO for years? Isn't it just the best thing since Eugene's return? Or is it just a clever way to get us to buy "Eugene Sings"? I'm thinking that it's just an long advertisement in a well-written show. Why else would someone make a show like this and then spring onto us a new music CD from Adventures in Odyssey? I find it a poor thing to do. Write a few funny songs, stick in a cliche message, and brainstorm a storyline that sounds more like a spoof than anything. But, with that said, it comes off as an entertaining show. And while being entertained isn't necessarily a bad thing, I, for one, would rather be edifed. This show has a lot of cool music and funny lyrics but it doesn't go much deeper than that. W?hy is AIO getting into music now? I think it's a risky thing to do, especially to put songs in the show. I was okay with "The Great Wishy Woz," but this is just ridiculous. Apart from some subtle Christian messages in Tamika's song, they're just love songs and advertising slogans in musical form. The average listener will probably be okay with this, but I'm worried that it might ostracize some listeners. Teenagers who come to the conclusion that AIO is strictly for young kids; strict parents who don't want their kids listening to this kind of music--it's a risky thing for a radio drama to do. Why take chances with AIO's fans? It's just not safe. Before you think that I really did not like this show, let me clarify that that is certainly not the case. It was humorous at times and the songs were fun. Although it seemed like a long advertisement for "Eugene Sings," it did make you more interested in the album (although you never actually heard a full songs of Eugene's--why did Chris keep interrupting the only song of Eugene's at the end?). I have my issues with it (I felt that the lesson seemed very dry; the actor who had the challenge of bringing across the moral failed miserably), but Odyssey Sings was an enjoyable show. |
