| The first show of the new season does dissapoint-for me, at least. Living in the Gray does allow for some complex situations and some quick wit but leaves little room for a great storyline, at least, in my opinion. The show starts with Connie and George waiting at a dinner for Jimmy. After some humor that sounds like it should be in a Kathy Wrienger episode, Connie meets Jimmy. It wasn't overplayed, wasn't downplayed either. Just stuck in the middle somewhere between. After a few more jokes that sound like Kathy Wrienger, this "ditzy" waitress comes along for the order and promptly announces, to friend Connie and father George, that Jimmy is her boyfriend. After about a nine minute scene with her, we cut to an addvert break. About time too, the episode was getting boring. Well, yes, I'm just telling you the whole storyline. What else is a reviewer supposed to give away in their review? Anyway, back to the review. Some of the positive things in the show were the final scene with George being poked all over ("Do you have an artifical limb?") and also the reference to a previous Odyssey show, The Prodigal Jimmy (Yes, that was the age when Jimmy was known as Bimmy). Some negative elements were some longer scenes (ones with Felicia in 'em were bad in the first part, but the character got slightly better in the second part) and some slow bits. Of course, hearing Jimmy again was a plus, but really, it isn't wonderful. The character has been used too often and I for one would not care if I never heard him again. Though both Dave and Chuck did a good job on the acting and, of course, Connie was wonderful, though hardly seeming a main character in some regards. Anyway, time to be off now. I hope you enjoyed reading my personal rambalings about the season opener (and so glad that the season has started!!!) and that you liked the new show! This is Dave, signing off. |
