Basic Training is nine weeks of hard work. In addition to learning about basic Army life —its rules and regulations—you will have to push yourself in order to complete the rigorous physical training (PT). As basic progresses, PT becomes a more practical, hands-on experience: you will pair off for hand-to-hand combat drills, perform guerrilla exercises, make tactical daylight marches, and learn security and dispersion discipline.

You will also learn about military tactics and how to handle and care for weapons, like the M-16A2 rifle. You'll have to pass various levels of inspection: in ranks, with weapons, and in your barracks. In Week Five, you'll do bivouac, which is basically Army camping. You'll also learn basic first aid, camouflage, how to take cover and set up defensive positions.

Army basic is designed to help you learn about all the rules and regulations that go along with life in the Army. After the nine weeks of rigorous mental and physical training, Army recruits have learned the skills and gained the knowledge that they will need to know for the rest of their careers in the Army. Army basic is held for 9 weeks in various locations (Fort Benning, GA, Fort Knox, KT, Fort Still, OK, Fort Bliss, TX, Fort Leonard, MO, Fort McClellan, AL).
