PREREQUISITS

-    grammar: present simple, adjectives, demonstratives possessives,

-    vocabulary: SS already know the vocabulary concerned with places and with:

1.   cooking ingredients (milk, eggs, butter etc.)

2.   transports (bus, train, car, etc.)

3.   clothes (trousers, blouse, jacket etc.)

- functions: greeting, asking questions and answering.     

- use of monol. dictionary

OBJECTIVES

 

 

PEDAGOGICAL (formative) AIMS:

-    cultural and social enrichment;

-    observing different ways of living compared to one’s own;

ENRICHMENT OF LINGUISTIC COMPETENCES:

-    vocabulary and grammar: Ss will learn new words, verbs, adverbs and linkers related to the T. U.’s field of interest such as catching a train/bus ; lazing around ; as soon as; used to do; prepositions of place, preposition of time and movement; consolidation of adverbs of frequency such as always never, ever, seldom, sometimes; linking words such as but, because, and, so, when, until; past simple,

-    functions: describing common places and situations in simple sentences, find simple information in recipes, at the supermarket, timetables, charts, maps, in shopping centres i.e. price, waist of clothes etc.

-    communicative activities: can read and follow directions and instructions, can understand everyday signs and notices in public places – streets, restaurants, railway station; can identify specific info in simpler written material – letters, brochures; can handle a simple casual conversation; can say what people like and dislike, can ask about things and make simple transactions in shops, post offices, banks; can pass and exchange notes, memos, related to areas of immediate needs.

COMPETENCES

 

 

GENERAL COMPETENCES:

-    Sociocultural knowledge: knowledge of the L2 society and culture; knowledge of its living standards, traditions, habits etc.

-    Knowledge of the world: knowledge concerning the L2 countries: geography, and history. 

- Functions: exchanging information about like and dislikes, 

asking for specific info, express opinions, talking about people, make comparisons.

-    Written: notes, messages, newspapers articles, personal letters.

-    Spoken: inter-personal dialogues and conversation, telephone conversation.

TASKS

 

 

- taking part in a discussion, giving a presentation, interpreting 

   a role in a dialogue, following written exercises.

- inferring, identifying cues, turntaking, building on previous 

  knowledge, co-operation.

- photocopies/handouts, O.H.Projector, transparencies, cassette recorder,

-    oral formative assessment: at the end of each unit.

-    written formative assessment:  at the end of the module

-    summative assessment: through

1.     semi-structured tests (oral interview, summary, composition) 

2.     subjective tests (conversation, description.)

REMEDIAL WORK

 

- after each unit if necessary through: multiple choice, fill in     

   the blanks, completing dialogues etc.

-    grammar: present simple, past simple, possessives, comparison, adverbs; question and comment tags; Time: from/since/for;

-    vocabulary: SS already know the vocabulary concerned with

1.   time-description (at that time, once upon…, )

2.   some musical instruments (guitar, sax, drums,)

3.   some musical genre (rock, pop, jazz, funky, acid, )

4.   clothes (trousers, blouse, jacket etc.)

- functions: asking questions and answering, description, exchanging   information.

- Sociocultural: can identify cultural symbols, words and images related to other cultures/society

- use of monol. dictionary

-    to work out knowledge of the world

§       Compositions: lyrical and popular songs, ballads, broadsides;

§       Instruments: tin whistle, bag-pipe, violin, acoustic guitar, keyboard,

§       Dances: reel, jiig, hornpipe (folk).
