Microeconomics: American Business in Action
These three chapters in this unit discuss finance and production, marketing and distribution, and the role of labor in producing goods. We will explore investment financing and the types of financing for businesses in Chapter 11. We will discuss the marketing techniques used by companies in Chapter 12. Finally, we will look at labor and management relations in Chapter 13.

12. Explain the difference between closed, union, and agency shops as forms of labor organization.
13. Identify and describe the six major issues that are involved in labor management negotiations.
14. Describe two workers actions that can accompany a strike and two management responses to a strike.
15. Explain the modern trend in collective bargaining in the United States.

Tuesday, November 28 – Discuss Cost-Benefit Analysis and types of financing available for business operations.
Homework: Prepare for a quiz over Chapter 11, Sections 1 and 2.
Wednesday, November 29 – Quiz. Take notes over Chapter 12: Marketing. Get into groups and begin the marketing project.
Thursday, November 30 – Watch commercials and identify target audiences and evaluate how well the commercial fulfills its goals. Meet in groups to discuss the Marketing Project.
Friday, December 1 – Meet to work on the Group Marketing Projects.
Homework: Work on your group commercial.
Monday, December 4 – Take notes over Chapter 13, Section 1. Complete Reteaching Activity 13.
Homework: Read Chapter 13.
Tuesday, December 5 – Stock Market Game Portfolios are Due! Finish discussing Chapter 13: “Organized Labor and Collective Bargaining”. Read articles about the recent Janitor’s Strike in Houston.
Wednesday, December 6 – Labor Simulation.
Homework: Study for a quiz over Chapter 13.
Thursday, December 7 and Friday, December 8 – Quiz. Present Group Marketing Projects.
Monday, December 11-Wednesday, December 13 – Review for the Final Exam.
