| PRINCIPIA GENTIS APOLLONIAE |
| I. After adoption into the Gens one is normally expected to be a gentilis for eternity. The manes of a gentilis are respected even after death in the lararium rites of the Pater/Mater familias and other gentiles. II. Gentiles may leave the Gens if they intend to leave Nova Roma or receive adoption into another gens. If they wish to do so, they should out of politeness consult with the Pater/Mater familias before making such a decision final. If a gentilis leaves Nova Roma for reasons of conscience, he or she is not necessarily required to leave the Gens, and the same is true after expulsion from Nova Roma if the Pater/Mater familias believes this decision to be unjust. The Pater/Mater familias reserves the right to expel gentiles from the Gens for extraordinary cause, but the general principle shall be to give personal support to all gentiles without condition, as in any healthy and loving family. III. All gentiles are expected to give personal support to other members of the Gens in any ways they consider reasonable and proper, particularly in matters of Nova Roman life, but also in other spheres. Consideration and courtesy are enjoined upon all. Gentiles should take a lively interest in one another's lives and welfare, while also respecting each other's fundamental right to privacy. IV. Gentiles should keep themselves informed as to the doings and status of the Gens, and of the well-being of all its members. It shall be a norm for gentiles to salute the Pater/Mater familias at least once in a month except when travel, sickness or other serious impediments make this unfeasible. All new gentiles are encouraged to use MSN Messenger as a medium of communication outside our mailing list. V. The Gens Apollonia respects freedom of conscience and the freedom of religion of all its gentiles. However, the Gens as a whole respects the Religio Romana and has taken as its patron deities Phoebus Apollo and Minerva-Athena. These, the Lares and Penates of the Gens and the Genius of the Paterfamilias (or Iuno of the Materfamilias), as well as certain other deities of the Religio Romana are regularly worshipped by the Pater/Mater familias in the name of the Gens as a whole. Because the residence of the gentiles is dispersed, the heads of individual family households within the Gens may also wish to carry out lararium rites honouring the deities of the Gens. For this purpose the Pater/Mater familias shall issue standard Gens versions of the text of the rites, which may be used as is or adapted by the individual household. VI. The Pater/Mater familias affirms that he or she has a special responsibility to keep confidences entrusted to him by gentiles. To avoid misunderstandings, gentiles should clearly state when they wish a matter to be kept in confidence, as the judgement of a given gentilis and that of the Pater/Mater familias might otherwise be different, and the latter also has a normal duty to keep the gentiles informed of one another's welfare and doings. VII. The Pater/Mater familias also has a responsibility to nominate a worthy successor when he or she is no longer able or willing to remain in this position. VIII. The Gens Apollonia is an integral part of the micronation of Nova Roma, and it shall strive to be an example of amor patriae, and to encourage its members to remain within and to serve the Respublica. In addition, the Gens has established itself on a basis of strongly encouraging Latinity and fostering the study of Roman History, creation of Literature and pursuit of Philosophy. |
