| In Gens Apollonia we present the following rites used by the Pater/Mater Familias of the Gens for everyone�s information as to the prayers being said on their behalf, and for the use of individual family households within the Gens. It is permitted to household heads to make modifications. In case of difficulty or doubt about modifications, the Pater/Mater Familias of the Gens should be consulted. In the case of the Gens when a Materfamilias is religious head, the prayer made in the male case to the "Genius Paterfamilias" is made to the "Iuno Materfamilias". [Specifically, the words "Geni Patris Famili�s" are changed to "I�n�n� Matris Famili�s".] In every household the head for religious purposes may use these rites before the household Lararium. If the officient is not the Pater/Mater Familias of the Gens, he/she does not touch his/her forehead when worshiping the Genius of the Paterfamilias or Iuno of the Materfamilias. In all other respects the worship is the same, unless the individual houshold wishes to introduce additional elements or variations. The following texts have been modified from those proposed by Nova Roma to all cives in the interests of authenticity, practicability and correct Latin. The Latin has been marked for long vowels to aid in correct pronunciation. The marking is with the apex, which looks like an acute accent. It does not always indicate a stress accent, but simply a long vowel. In the case of the word "Min�rvaque", the E with grave accent indicates a stress accent which happens to be on a short vowel. Gentiles of the Gens Apolloniae are not required to perform the rites, as the performance of them by the Pater/Mater Familias is adequate for all. However, all gentiles and households in the Gens are welcome to maintain their own Lararia and carry out the rites if they wish. |
