Gerrard laying down the quality house tunes here. "House Circus"
combines filtered disco loops with a riffing guitar and some muted old skool
horns on this solid disco house cut. "Clariphone" opens up side 2 with
centers around a killer jazzy clarinet line, with a bumping bassline, crisp
hi-hats and a sublime xylophone hook all making this a stellar late night
funky houser. Last up is "Play Those Horns", with it's horn loops joined by
tough beats, a solid bassline groove, and a stabbing spoken vocal ("play
those horns") on another disco-flavored outing.

Written and produced by Lo Rez. Lo Rez is the latest offering from the
Totem Music label, with this new 4-tracker of techno flavors. "Loose
Cannon" chugs along nicely, ably assisted by subtle acid lines, a rumbling
funky bassline, and quirky analog synths on this techno funker. "Stalemate"
is another hypnotic funky techno cut, with crisp beats and layers of effects,
a la Matt Dear. On the flip, "Little And Often" blends minimal techno with
some house-flavored synths, resulting in a late night tech-house groover.
Last up is "Polyester Look", combining a swing beat with a deep funk
bassline, vocoder vocals and great guitar riff on the most house-flavored
cut of the bunch. Well worth checking this one out.

Written and produced by Masters At Work. Superb vocal house from the
MAW boys, with this Voices release a very aptly-named project, with soulful
vocals, both male (think "Love & Happiness") and female (think "Universal
Love"), dominating this funky peaktime winner, with Masters At Work
combining some stellar keys, crisp beats, and a thick funk bassline, setting
the tome perfectly for this anthemic cut. But if you flip this one over you'll
find the real gem, with the "Jazzy Dub" transforming the track completely,
striping out the vocal elements save the odd stab here and there, adding
some ethereal synth chords, new beat structures, and some more superb
keys, all paving the way for a thumping kickdrum and solid bassline to take
the track off to the late night floor crowds. Essential.

Thomas returns after a bit of an absence with this cracking new one on
Ri'Que Music. First up is "In The Light Of Truth", something a little deeper
from young Tony this time out, with a dubby funk bassline and echoy synths
the main players here, along with some chunky peaktime beats and dubbed
out horn stabs. On the reverse, "Best Funk Forwarded" opens with some
great Latin-tinged percussion before a pumping bassline groove joins the
shuffling tribal beats and riffing guitar stab on this funky tribal house winner.
Great stuff, as you would expect from Tony Thomas.

rhythms, a grooving bassline, a sultry Latin vocal, and a sublime Latin
guitar line. Another classic release from Lil Louie Vega.

DJ Sneak on this mysterious new release on X-Mix. This "Mista D"has been
doing the rounds in Europe for a while now, getting much praise, and it's
not hard to see why. The original mix sees Mista D providing a hip-hop
vocal, which is then broken into a stabbing ingredient on this chunky house
cut that becomes dominated by it's bumping bassline, shuffling beats, and
superb stabbing panpipe (?) before some great funky horns stab into the
mix, with Sneak building up layer after layer of grooviness. The "DJ Sneak
Vs. Mista D" sees Sneak reworking the bassline a little, while that panpipe
still is an ever present on this more straight forward mix that lets the
bassline work it's own magic free of the layers Sneak had on the original.
Great shuffling funky house for everyone to get down to.

naughty booty house sample alongside some great funky West Coast
house vibes, with stellar percussion, great horns, crisp beats, a rockin'
bassline and the odd disco loop here and there. "She Found Me" finished
this trio of cuts off in fine style, taking the vibes a little deeper with a rich

chords provide a fitting backdrop. The dub mix takes the track a little
further, giving it a bit of Latin flavor via some great percussion, and then
adding a strong piano line to dominate the space left by the stripping out of
the majority of the vocal. Late night house at it's finest.
