The Crest of Courage

Disclaimer: I don't own any Digimon or any of the Digidestined. DemiDevimon's
new attack, Death Poison, IS mine though. I guess that's about all. I hope
you enjoy my Fanfic!
"Tai! Help!" Kari cried as the Digidestined all fell into the darkness.
"Kari!" Tai cried. He reached for his sister's hand as he fell. Then Kari's
hand slipped from his.
Palmon had grabbed onto something with her poison ivy vines. She managed to
grab Mimi and Gatomon as they fell. Gatomon reached out and got Kari.
Then Palmon lost her grip. Kari and the others all disappeared into the
darkness.
"KARI! NOOOOO!" Tai screamed.
Tai woke up around midnight gasping. He had just had the most horrible dream
in his entire life.
Tai realized no one else in the dark cave was awake. He poked Agumon. Agumon
kept snoring away.
Tai just couldn't get the awful dream out of his head. And he just then got a
pounding headache. Tai pulled his crest out of his pocket and stared at it.
For some reason it hadn't made Agumon Digivolve at all in the past month.
What's wrong with this stupid thing?! Tai thought angrily. He glared at his
crest and
stuck it back in his pocket. After a long, long time he finally fell asleep.
And fainted.
"Lord Myotismon, you won't believe this!" DemiDevimon exclaimed.
"What is it?" Myotismon growled.
"I have poisoned the Crest of Courage with my Death Poison," DemiDevimon said
proudly. "And by the time Tai has figured that out the Crest will have lost
all of it's power!"
Myotismon smiled. "It's about time you did something successful, DemiDevimon."
"And that's not all!" DemiDevimon laughed.
DemiDevimon flew silently to the group of sleeping children and Digimon. He
flew right over Tai. "Death Poison!" He whispered.
A cloud of golden spores showered over Tai. The spores landed on him and
disappeared.
DemiDevimon flew away before they all woke up. "Mission Accomplished!"
"Tai? Tai, wake up!" Agumon shook Tai the next morning. Tai didn't move.
"What's wrong, Agumon?" Matt asked.
"Tai isn't waking up!" Agumon replied.
"Something must be really wrong with him," Gabumon said worriedly.
Joe checked Tai's pulse. "His pulse is normal," Joe announced.
"Then what's wrong? Why won't Tai wake up?" Kari asked.
Joe put his hand on Tai's forehead. He immediately yanked it away. "Ow!"
"What happened, Joe?" Gomamon asked.
"Now I know what's wrong with him. Tai is burning up. I practically burned my
hand!" Joe replied.
"But how did he get sick? Tai was perfectly fine yesterday." Sora stated.
"I don't know." Joe sighed. "But we should stay here and wait till he gets
better to fight Myotismon."
"I don't know about you, but haven't you noticed that I haven't Digivolved in
a really, really long time?" Agumon suddenly realized.
"Maybe something's wrong with Tai's crest and that made him sick!" T.K said.
"But how could that make him sick, T.K?" Patamon asked.
"Maybe the crest drained all of Tai's energy." Izzy said thoughtfully.
"You think so?" Tentomon asked.
"I don't think so. Tai was really energetic yesterday." Palmon stated.
"Yeah, he was." Mimi agreed.
A familiar voice startled them. "Hey, here's a riddle. What has two wings and
is really smart?!"
The Digidestined turned around to the voice. It was DemiDevimon!
"DemiDevimon!" They all exclaimed.
"No, a bat. But that was a good guess!" DemiDevimon laughed.
Gatomon glared at him. "I wouldn't exactly call a bowling ball with feathers
really smart. I would call it really stupid!" She shouted.
"Ha ha, very funny!" DemiDevimon said sarcastically. "But if I was really
stupid, how would I be the one to have the brains to poison your little
friend here?"
"Poisoned?!" Gabumon exclaimed.
"It was you who made Tai sick!" Agumon growled.
"And I'll give you a little hint here. There is no cure for Death Poison!"
DemiDevimon laughed.
"Did he just say what I thought he said?" Sora asked.
"Yeah, did he just say Death Poison?!" Biyomon gasped.
"Oh, yeah?!" Agumon shouted. "Agumon! Digivolve to - hey!"
Gabumon stopped Agumon. "Don't forget, to Digivolve you need to share Tai's
energy. You can't waste his energy if there's nothing we can do to help him."
He said.
"That's right, Gabumon! I'll see you all again very soon!" DemiDevimon flew
away.
The Digidestined just stood there, shocked. They just couldn't believe it.
Death Poison?
"If what DemiDevimon said is true... that means that Tai…" Sora just couldn't
believe it.
"How does DemiDevimon know Death Poison?" Palmon wondered aloud.
"What do you mean?" Mimi asked.
"Death Poison is a very secret and very dangerous Digimon attack." Palmon
explained.
"Oh."
Izzy looked up from his computer. "It says here that Death Poison is a very
dangerous Digimon attack. Any -"
"I think we know that already, Izzy," Matt interrupted sarcastically.
"Any Digimon can learn it but only with a special thing that teaches it to
them," Izzy continued. "Anyone who gets struck by Death Poison… doesn't make
it."
"That's because it has absolutely no cure." Tentomon replied.
"And," Izzy went on, "It takes awhile for the effects of Death Poison to
occur."
"That's good," Tentomon sighed.
"Good?!" Kari exploded at Tentomon. "Either way, Tai will still die from
Death Poison! You call that good?!"
"Whoa, calm down, Kari!" Gatomon exclaimed.
"We should have a schedule," Joe announced.
"What for?" Gomamon asked.
"Well, I can't exactly take care of Tai every second," Joe replied.
"I'll take care of Tai for an hour, then Sora can, then Izzy, then Mimi, and
then you can, Joe. We will keep going in that order." Matt suggested.
"Good idea," Joe replied.
Sora walked into the cave just as Matt was walking out the next day. Tai had
been unconscious for 19 hours. Sora might have thought that Tai was dead if
it weren't for the beating of Tai's heart.
"I hope Tai gets better," Biyomon sighed.
"But he won't, Biyomon," Sora replied sadly. "You heard what Izzy said.
There's no cure for this."
"Next time we see that DemiDevimon or Myotismon I'm gonna beat them up!"
Biyomon declared.
"Right." Sora nodded.
Tai stirred. He opened his eyes. Mimi, Palmon and Gatomon slowly came into
focus.
"Tai, you're awake!" Mimi said softly.
Tai could only nod. "How long have I been asleep?" He whispered that. He
barely had enough energy to speak.
"Let's just say that before you fell unconscious, I had nine lives. Now I'm
down to about three." Gatomon answered. Tai nodded again.
"Are you hungry, Tai?" Palmon asked.
"Yeah, a little." Tai whispered.
"Ok. I'll be back before you know it!" Palmon left the cave.
"Where is everyone?" Tai whispered.
"Outside," Mimi replied.
Palmon then returned. She was holding a small cup. In the cup were mashed-up
berries of all kinds.
Tai thought he must have looked a little green because then Palmon said,
"Don't worry. These are good for you to eat when you're sick."
Gatomon helped Tai sit up and Palmon held the cup up to Tai's mouth. Tai
drank a little of the berries and started to feel tired again.
Joe poked his head in the cave. "Mimi, it's my tur - hey, you're awake, Tai!"
Tai nodded. Gatomon laid Tai back down.
"Hey, everyone, Tai's awake!" Joe called to the others. Everyone came in to
see Tai.
"Are you ok?" Kari asked.
"How are you feeling, Tai?" Agumon asked.
"Tired…" Tai murmured. His eyes were half closed.
Sora noticed this. "Go back to sleep, Tai," She told him. "You need your
rest."
Tai nodded. His eyes closed and he immediately fell asleep again.
"Why'd you tell him to go back to sleep?!" Agumon asked.
"Because he needed his rest. He said he was tired," Sora replied.
"True."
Biyomon started to leave the cave. "Come on, you guys. We all need our
sleep." She whispered to the others.
T.K yawned. "Yeah."
Joe, Gomamon, and Agumon stayed to watch Tai. As Sora walked out, she glanced
at Tai. Please don't die, Tai. Please don't die.
Genaii frowned. The Crest of Courage was losing it's power! And he had a
strange feeling that something was going on with the Digidestined.
Genaii decided to talk to them. He would go the way he always did - in a
hologram.
"Look, it's Genaii!" Izzy shouted to the others. They ran to see Genaii.
"Hello, children," Genaii greeted them.
"Hi, Genaii!" Gatomon replied.
"I have some bad news," Genaii reported.
"What is it?" Joe asked.
"Actually, it is a lot of bad news. The Crest of Courage is losing it's
power."
"What?!" Palmon exclaimed.
"So that's why I haven't Digivolved," Agumon said.
"Do you know how Tai's crest lost it's power, Genaii?" Gatomon asked.
"No, I don't. I was just about to ask you that," Genaii replied. "Speaking of
which, where is Tai?"
Agumon pointed toward the cave. "In there. He's really, really sick.
DemiDevimon got him with Death Poison." He whispered.
"Death Poison?!" Genaii exclaimed.
"Yes. I think he might…" Kari started crying.
"Don't worry, Kari. Tai will get better," Gatomon said, trying to comfort
Kari.
"Actually, he won't." Genaii said. "Death Poison always kills anyone who
suffers from it."
Kari's throat suddenly turned dry. She had thought that there would be a cure
for Death Poison, even though DemiDevimon said there wasn't any. Don't start
crying again, Kari, Kari thought as she fought back her tears. She thought
that this was all a horrible nightmare and that she would wake up. Kari
pinched herself. It was real.
"Is there any way we can prevent this from happening, Genaii?" Izzy asked
softly.
"Well, there is one way." Genaii said thoughtfully.
"What?! What is it?!" The Digidestined all shouted.
"I remember an old prophecy," Genaii said slowly. "When the soul that suffers
from Death Poison dies, the tears of it's loved ones will wash over the soul
and revive it. Only then will the soul awaken."
"In English, please?" Patamon asked, clearly confused.
"I put a copy of the prophecy on your computer," Genaii said to Izzy. "Maybe
you will figure it out in time. I must go…"
With that, Genaii disappeared.
"Well, that was about as clear as mud," Matt sighed.
"At least it's something," Mimi said.
"Something is always better then nothing." T.K agreed.
Izzy was busy reading the prophecy on his computer. He read it several times.
"I don't get it," He sighed.
"When the soul that suffers from Death Poison dies, the tears of it's loved
ones will wash over the soul and revive it. Only then will the soul awaken."
Tentomon read. "I don't get it either."
"I better get back to Tai," Joe stated.
"I'll come with you," Gomamon replied.
"I will, too." Agumon followed Joe and Gomamon inside the cave.
"Do you have any idea what that prophecy meant, Gomamon?" Joe asked as they
walked inside the cave.
"Nope." Gomamon replied.
Then Agumon saw Tai wake up again. "Hi, Tai," Agumon said quietly.
"Hi, Agumon," Tai whispered. He whispered it so softly that Agumon, Joe, and
Gomamon could barely hear him.
Joe placed his hand on Tai's forehead. "YEOUCH!" Joe cried. Tai was so hot
that he was sweating now.
"Gomamon, can you get a rag from the first aid bag?" Joe asked. Gomamon did.
"Now I want you to go to the river and wet the rag." Joe said. "And please
hurry back."
"I'll be back before you know it!" Gomamon declared. He left the cave and
headed for the river.
As Gomamon dipped the rag in the cold river, he thought about the prophecy
again. "When the soul that suffers from Death Poison dies, the tears of it's
loved ones will wash over it and revive the soul. Only then will the soul
awaken," Gomamon said aloud. "I JUST DON'T GET IT!"
Then he heard a laugh. He recognized that laugh.
"Oh, no! Myotismon!" Gomamon raced back to the cave, and he hoped that he'd
get there in time.
"What's wrong, Gomamon?" Joe asked as the Digimon burst into the cave. Joe
put the rag on the sleeping Tai's forehead.
"Myotismon is coming! I heard him when I was at the -" Gomamon was
interrupted by a long, evil laugh.
"Myotismon!" Agumon cried.
Joe, Agumon, and Gomamon raced outside. They saw Myotismon above them in the
sky.
"Look out!" Joe cried. Matt then saw Myotismon. "Digivolving time, you guys!"
He shouted to the Digimon.
"Gabumon! Warp Digivolve to…"
Gabumon changed to Garurumon. Then WereGarurumon. Then, finally…
"METALGARURUMON!"
"Biyomon! Digivolve to… Birdramon!" Biyomon also Digivolved.
"Digivolve again!" Sora cried. Her Crest of Love started glowing.
"Birdramon! Digivolve to… GARUDAMON!"
Then Tentomon started Digivolving.
"Tentomon! Digivolve to… Kabuterimon!"
"Go, Kabuterimon!" Izzy cried as the Crest of Knowledge glowed.
"Kabuterimon! Digivolve to… MEGAKABUTERIMON!"
Then Palmon and Patamon Digivolved.
"Palmon! Digivolve to… Togemon!" That's when Mimi's Crest of Sincerity glowed.
"Togemon Digivolve to… LILLYMON!"
"Go, Lillymon!" Mimi cried.
"Patamon Digivolve to… ANGEMON!"
"You can do it, Angemon!" T.K shouted. Kari's Crest of Light glowed brightly.
"Gatomon! Digivolve to… ANGEWOMON!"
"That's right, Angewomon! You can do it! Go, Angewomon!" Kari yelled.
Last but not least, Gomamon Digivolved.
"Gomamon! Digivolve to… Ikkakumon!" Then Joe's Crest of Reliability started
glowing.
"Ikkakumon! Digivolve to… ZUDOMON!"
Agumon tried to Digivolve even though he knew he couldn't. Agumon sighed.
"Ice Wolf Snout!"
"Wing Blade!"
"Horn Buster!"
"Flower Cannon!"
"Vulcan's Hammer!"
"Hand of Fate!"
"Celestial Arrow!"
Myotismon smiled. As Wolf Snout, Flower Cannon, and Hand of Fate came toward
him, he blew a bit of air from his mouth and the three attacks flew into the
sky. As Wing Glade, Horn Buster, Vulcan's Hammer, and Celestial Arrow came at
him, he spread his arms out and the attacks vanished.
"Fools!" He said. "You will never be able to defeat me! Crism Lightning!"
Myotismon shouted. The red beam struck all the Digimon, weakening them.
"It's no use! He's WAY stronger then he was before!" MetalGarurumon said to
Matt.
From his spot in the cave, Tai awoke to the sound of an evil laugh. He knew
that laugh well. He knew it was Myotismon.
Maybe I have enough strength left for Agumon to Warp-Digivolve, Tai thought
tiredly. No! Am I crazy?! What if I DON'T have enough energy? Tai didn't want
to think about that.
I have to do it, He thought. I have to do it for Agumon, for Kari, for Sora,
for everybody! I HAVE to!
Tai struggled to get a hold of his Digivice and Crest. You can do it, Agumon!
Agumon suddenly felt strange. He was glowing!
"What's… going on?" Matt asked.
Sora looked over at Tai - and saw his Digivice and Crest beside his lifeless
body.
"Agumon! Warp-Digivolve to…"
Agumon changed to Greymon. Then MetalGreymon. And finally…
"WarGreymon!"
"I see your little friend has used up all his strength, WarGreymon. Too bad!"
Myotismon laughed. "Crism Lightning!"
"Tera Force!" WarGreymon yelled. WarGreymon made his largest Tera Force yet.
The enormous ball of fire crashed through Crism Lightning and Myotismon.
Myotismon flew up into the air. "I'll be back!" He shouted.
MetalGarurumon de-digivolved to Tsunomon. MegaKabuterimon de-digivolved to
Motimon. Lillymon de-digivolved to Tanemon, Zudomon de-digivolved to Bukamon,
Angemon de-digivolved to Patamon, and Angewomon de-digivolved to Salamon.
Finally, WarGreymon de-digivolved to Koromon.
"Tai!" Kari shouted. She ran to Tai's lifeless body.
"Why did he do it?" Tentomon asked.
"Because he knew we needed his help…" Izzy said quietly.
Joe was checking over Tai. He looked up.
Kari was already sobbing. The look on Joe's face told her what happened to
Tai. Joe managed to choke out the words, "He's… gone…" Before crying
himself.
Koromon started sobbing just as hard as Kari was. So did T.K. One by one, the
children and their Digimon all started crying, even Matt, who didn't even try
to hide that fact that he was crying.
The tears of the children and their Digimon shimmered like crystals in the
air. The tears washed over Tai. Then Tai's body started glowing with a soft
blue light.
The Digidestined held their breath. They all started at Tai hopefully. The
blue light disappeared.
Kari's Crest suddenly burst with light. So did Tai's. The light filled the
dark cave. The children and the Digimon stared at the amazing sight.
"Look!" Patamon exclaimed.
Kari suddenly saw Tai's chest starting to move up and down very slowly. She
held her breath.
Tai opened his eyes!
"Tai!" Kari threw herself at Tai.
"Kari!" Tai exclaimed.
Mimi was so happy that she started doing a crazy dance with Joe. Matt picked
up T.K and whirled him around in circles. Izzy and Sora also started doing a
crazy dance. The Digimon, especially Koromon, were so happy they couldn't
even speak.
"Now I know what that prophecy meant," Izzy said, tears of happiness rolling
down his face. "The tears of the soul's loved ones will wash over the soul
and revive it."
"And only then will the soul awaken," Sora finished. She was also crying.
"It all makes sense now!" Mimi said happily.
As everyone celebrated, Kari whispered in Tai's ear, "I'm so glad you're ok,
Tai. I love you."
