Aftermath by DKG80

AN: This is the end. The final story. Sorry. But summer's almost over,

and I can't keep writing. This explains what eventually happens to all of

them. Okay, intro's over.

Disclaimer: Ah, the last time I'll have to write one of these stupid

disclaimers. I don't own digimon, so suers, get out of town.

Tai walked down the street with Izzy. It was summer. Tai was a senior

at Obida College, Izzy a freshman. They casually chatted. They passed by

the monument to those fallen in the Obida war. It was pretty big. Sora's

tombstone was near the front.

Anyway, they were chatting.

"I hope that Walter comes to visit us soon. Maybe he could build us

another digi-world communicator, one for you and one for me." Tai said,

refering to Mr. Ishida's communicator. Walter had mysteriously vanished

about a year ago, leaving only a note saying that he had been hired by a

top-secret science company that only sold to militaries and stores that could

afford the high prices for incredible items. Walter had mailed them a note

with the return address pointing to Egypt saying that he would be back soon

and was moving again. He also said that their most recent invention was so

secret that he couldn't tell what it was.

"What about Joe? Or Julia? I'd like to see them again." Said Izzy. Joe

had moved to the U.S.A. for his reporting company, and was touring the world.

He'd also written and promised to show up soon. Julia had been hired by a

band to sing. She was a huge hit, and was now touring England. She'd also

written. She said that she would do a quick tour of Japan, and might be able

to stop in Obida.

"Or even T.K." Said Tai. T.K. had told them on the communicator that he

might come back for a brief period of time.

"Hey guys! Wait up!"

Walter, Julia, and Joe ran down the street to Tai and Izzy.

"Hey guys. My work took me here to Obida, and so I'm back! My building

is the large white one over there--you can just buzz me whenever you want!

The TSL." Said Walter.

"I'm touring the country. I'm giving a show at the memorial site

tonight, you know. My usual style of singing, plus a special piece to those

that fell in Obida." Said Julia.

"I could take time off of my work to see that." Said Walter.

"I'm covering that!" Said Joe.

"We'll come too." Said Tai.

"Okay." Said Julia, smiling. She ran off.

***

Julia stood on stage, ready to perform. She was very happy. She picked

up the mike.

"Okay, now. First, a dedication to those that fell in the evil battle of

Obida" Said Julia.

A small explosion went off a few blocks away. The crowd whispered

quickly, wondering how the band made the explosion.

Julia shrugged, opened her mouth, and began to sing.

Joe was recording behind her when suddenly a hand grabbed him. He

whirled around to see his boss.

"Okay, Joe. We need you to cover another event. That explosion at the

Top Secret Lab. We want our viewers to see how bad this explosion was." Said

the boss.

"But everyone will be watching this, so--".

A thought struck him. "Isn't that where Walter works?

"Yes. They're trying to find survivors now." Said the boss. Julia

whirled around when she caught those words.

Joe sighed. "Julia, I've got to go. Sorry. This is important. I'm

going to try and save Walter." Julia nodded, turned around, and went back to

singing. Joe fled the stage.

***

The concert lasted from 8:00 to 10:00 at night. Julia left as quick as

she could--which wasn't quick concidering the audience begged for an encore,

and the band gave in, so Julia had to follow. But she was able to leave by

10:30.

Tai and Izzy caught up to her. "Hey, what was that all about?" Asked Tai.

Julia didn't answer. Instead, she turned the corner to see the TSL.

It was a smoking wreck. Medics and rescue crew swarmed it. Reporters

that had been covering the concert for the full time (unlike Joe) were just

arriving. Joe was already covering the story on his videocamera.

A man emerged from the wreck. Joe dashed over to him. "Any survivors?"

"No. Not even Walter, who's survived this kind of thing before." Was the

reply.

All four digidestined gasped.

***

The digidestined gathered around Walter's grave. The funeral was over.

The others had all left the cemetery.

"Walter... I don't believe it." Said Tai, sobbing.

"Let's go." Said Julia, holding back her tears like always. Suddenly,

she couldn't take it any more. She cried.

"We should probably go. We could starve to death here to be with Walter,

but we probably shouldn't." Said Izzy, although he was crying more than

anyone.

They left the cemetery.

***

"Hey Tai!" Yelled Izzy.

The digidestined were in their forties now, and they had gotten jobs.

"I just got promoted! I'm head of the math department in the lab!" Said

Izzy!

"Cool! I've missed you since you moved to the U.S.A. I own that new

internet company. I'm pulling down major profits!" Said Tai.

"Julia's on tour again in this area, and Joe's covering her again. She's

staying in the mansion across town. And guess what?" Said Izzy.

"You saw her in the U.S.A.?" Asked Tai.

"Kind of. We got married in the U.S.A.! She's now Julia Izumi. Let's

see her concert, okay?" Said Izzy.

"Sure thing!" Said Tai. "Do you think she'll be all right? That new

group is doing everything to put them out of business short of breaking their

stuff!"

"They'll be fine." Said Izzy.

***

Tai and Izzy drove Julia home. She invited them to stay in the mansion

for the night, as it was late.

They all went to their seperate bedrooms. They all went right to bed.

Julia woke up around midnight to get water. Suddenly, a man jumped from

the shadows and attacked her.

"I'm from the new group, as you may have guessed." Said the man as he

drew a knife.

Julia screamed.

Izzy was jolted awake. He dashed to Julia's bedroom, to find a man

standing over her body.

"Ahhhhh!" Izzy jumped on the man, and they had a scuffle. The man fled

for the door, but Izzy jumped in front of it and locked it. The man stopped.

Izzy lay a bomb on the ground. "To prevent you from escaping, I'll be

standing in front of the door. We'll die together. The explosion won't

reach far enough to hurt Tai."

The man stared.

BOOM.

Tai woke this time. He ran to Julia's room. He stopped at the man's

body. He stared. he checked for a pulse and a heartbeat. Nothing.

Jim Kido was finally dead.

Tai checked and saw that Julia was dead too.

Izzy was still alive, but barely. As fire engines swarmed and reporters

grabbed a battering ram for the front door, Izzy spoke his last words.

"Oh Tai... I wish you happiness. Good-bye, dear friend." Izzy Izumi

relaxed in death.

Tai took off running. He ran until he got into his house. He shut the

door, and lay gasping for breath on the bed. Then he fell asleep.

***

The next day, Tai was walking. He was walking Suddenly, a familiar

person appeared right in front of him, where there had been just a bat a

moment before.

"Hi! What's up?" Asked T.K.

Tai told about the deaths of the three digidestined, and how only three

of the original seven and none of the additional three were alive.

"Make that one of the additional three." Said a voice.

Kari Kimiya was standing, with her blaster pointed straight at T.K.

Tai gasped. "You're... You're dead!"

"When that wall fell, I was in a concave area. A window, to be exact.

When Joe left, I broke the window and took off. And now, you both will die."

T.K. said. "Hat of Fate!"

Kari fired her blaster.

The two met in the middle. An explosion took place.

Tai was thrown back. When he got up, T.K. and Kari were lying on the

ground. Kari was dead. T.K. was almost dead.

T.K. spoke his final words when Tai drew close. "Tai... Tai, I'll really

miss you, no matter where I go." T.K. died there, a calm smile on his face.

***

Tai went into the hospital nervously. He was older now, in his eighties,

and retired. He was nervous because it was near the tube, as where all of

the other digidestined's deaths had taken place. The T.V. station, the tube

itself, the TSL, the house. Joe had insisted that he go to a certain

room--687.

Tai entered the room not to find Joe reporting, but to find him lying in

bed.

"I was diagnosed with a type of cancer that is incurrable." He said

weekly. "I just wanted to say good-bye." Joe fell asleep.

Tai knew that this would be the last time that he saw Joe alive. Tai

cried a bit, and then walked off.

Tai went back to his Obida apartment. All of his friends and family were

now dead. He sighed.

Oh well. Death is a natural process. And right now, I don't care if I

do die. I just want to go to sleep. I'm tired. He thought.

They found Tai's body in his bed, under his blankets, a serene look on

his face.

***

"I felt it. Tai died too." Said Agumon.

The digimon, being data, had died too, but they had been reborn in

primary village. It seemed that the Realm of the Dead was just for digimon

who had been killed by another digimon or killed him or herself.

They all sighed.

***

Tai awoke. He was in a bedroom. He was thirteen again A sign on the

door said The Realm Of The Dead.

Joe walked in, in his fourteen year old body.. "SInce we all died, the

good digidestined were taken from the human death realm and put here. Like

it? Plus, that means that..."

Sora entered, young like the rest. Tai jumped up, ran to her, and kissed

her so hard that she was knocked backwords.

Hey digimon, hey digimon

Monster friends to the boys and girls

Hey digimon, hey digimon

Seven young kids went to camp for the summer

Happy with not a care in the world

They got sucked into a digital place, and

They sure saved it with a swirl

They got three new digidestined

Beat the evils to the ground

But three of them were plain evil

Those three kids were going down

The rest of them managed to defeat the evils

And so the digidestined died.

Some serene, and some cried.

Their legacy lived on and on.

Long after those kids simply had gone.

They had shared tons of adventures together.

And when three of them saw the error of their ways.

They joined the other seven digidestined.

And they still have fun to this day.
