Character Info
Birth Name: Epée EtBouclier
Meaning: Half-assed bastardization of "épée et bouclier", which is French for "Sword and shield"
Birth Date: December 26
Sign: Capricorn
Blood Type: AB
Gemstone: Zircon
Age: 18, yeah, she's an old lady. Mwa! >P
Appearance:
Hair: Raven black in color, her hair seems straight until it reaches her chin, at which point it seemed to spontaneously decided to be curly. It reaches down to her waist (although if straightened it would most likely reach down to her butt).
Eyes: Two. ^_^ Epée has narrow ice blue eyes with impossibly long, thick lashes. They're almost always half-lidded, and giving something of a condescending look. Always, always focused. (When Epée looks at you, she LOOKS at you) She also has 20/20 vision ^^
Body: Average size (5'5), she's quite thin. Epée has a delicate build, fair skin, and doesn't seem like much of a problem in any physical sport. True, she's not the strongest person in the world, but well-trained muscles are hidden beneath that smooth skin, especially in her legs. Her sense of balance is almost inhuman, and she's no slouch when it comes to speed, either.
Attitude: If her reputation as an aloof bitch didn't make her known, then the way she wears her uniform would. The skirt is SCANDALOUSLY short, showing her KNEES! However, since it is pinned up, and the length is still TECHNICALLY down to her ankles, and she wears very opaque black tights with it, she doesn't get in trouble for it. She carries herself with a calm sense of purpose, as if she always knows EXACTLY where she'd going (and it's MUCH more important then stopping and talking to you).
Likes: Swords, a challenge, giving orders, various other metal weapons, strength (of will), individualism, order.
Dislikes: Weak people, being 'one of the crowd', crybabies, the boy's fencing club (has STILL not forgiven them)
Hobbies: Fencing
Feelings about P.E.: Loves it, as long as they aren't doing team sports.
Favorite School Subject: The Fencing Club, of course! If that doesn't count, then English.
Hated School Subject: Science
Friends & Family: Coralie EtBouclier (mother, 42) Curly blonde haired and blue-eyed, with a figure to die for (especially after having two children), Coralie considers herself a very traditional lady. She has endless amounts of patience, and answers everything with a calm smile. She speaks little, although when she does speak, people listen. Coralie has no job, of course, though she does give lessons in proper etiquette to the young boys and girls in town.
Andre EtBouclier (father, 49), Andre has black hair and bright green eyes. He's very tall and strongly built, and could probably punch a hole through the wall if he wanted to. Thank goodness he has self-control that rivals that of monk. No one is quite sure whether his cool impassiveness to everyone is a mask or the real deal, but he shows kindness and love only to those of his family (and even then, very little to Saber... have to teach him to be a man, after all). Although he was once a great fencer, now he only teaches his art to others, and is becoming quite senile very quickly as the years go on.
Saber EtBouclier (brother, 20), Saber is a very nice guy, if a little... over-zealous at times. He's devoted his life to becoming a master fencer, even though it lead him to dropping out of school. He carries the same attitude as his little sister, although his pride is just a mask to hide that he can't get over the fact that he is technically a bastard child (Saber was born half a year before Coralie and Andre were married). Saber is 6'0, has an average build, short blonde hair and green eyes.
Love Life: Nope. Nada. None. Also not looking for one.
History: Epée didn't have a very interesting life. She was born in France to a very middle-class, very big family, had a couple brothers and sisters, and from the beginning pretty much gave up on the fight for their parents' attention. She stayed quiet, and due to her lack of friends got to study her entire elementary school and jr. High school years. Joy. However, eventually her higher intelligence was noticed, and she got to skip the last grade of high school, and go to the elite Atma Academy For the Sciences and Arts. ^_^ Unfortunately this was when trouble began. She spoke very little of anything other then French, and her heavy accent was often made fun of by the older students. Not only that, but she was picked on frequently for being younger then the other freshmen, as well. Somehow, Epée managed to pass the first year of high school, just barely, but by the second year she had given up on academics and gotten into more physical learning. By the end of that year she not only gained a heavy reputation, but also had to repeat it. Her second junior year went much better, as she quickly fell back into step with schoolwork. Not as diligently and exceptionally before, but always at least enough to pass. Things have progressed about the same since then. Dark and mysterious person on campus who seems to honestly not give a damn and some such. Yeah. (I need to work on this part a lot)
Epée's father, Andre, loved sword fighting. 'Dueling is a gentlemen's sport' he would say. He had such love of it, in fact, that he named his children Saber and Epée (Thank goodness he didn't have a third child. They would never forgive being named 'Foil'). Although her family was pretty poor, Epée had a happy childhood. For a while, her father trained her and her brother in fencing equally. For a while. Once Epée grew to twelve, her father no longer gave her lessons, instead saying she should learn how to be a lady. Knitting and cooking did not interest Epée in the least bit, but fencing had taught her discipline, and she reluctantly agreed. Although her mother would teach her manners and proper etiquette, which was as far as her 'ladylike' training ever went. Instead she focused on books and mathematics. Epée excelled at school, and after seventh grade, her teachers suggested that she just skip 8th grade, and start high school at Atma Academy. Managing to somehow scrounge up enough money, her parents sent her away with their love, making her promise to write them often.
School was not as good as Epée would have hoped.
She was often made fun of when she spoke for her heavy French accent (making it impossible for people to understand her, in some cases), and the courses were twice as tough as she was used to. However, Epée was determined to make her parents proud of her, and pressed on. After the third week of school, Epée discovered the Girl's Fencing Club... and was sorely disappointed. It was little more then a place where the 'bad girls' went to hang out because they had to be part of a club, but didn't want to do anything else. Most of them didn't even know how to hold a sword right. Epée wanted to find someone who would continue teaching her fencing, but knew she would find no one there.
So she went to the boy's fencing club, hoping to find someone to help her. Once more, no luck. Some politely refused, saying they barely had enough time to PRACTICE fencing, what with all their schoolwork. Most just outright laughed in her face, though. "Fencing is a *GENTELMEN'S* sport, there is no place for a girl, except to be the one fought for." they said. Epée was getting very discouraged. Schoolwork and grades be dammed, she was going to teach them a lesson in manners that they wouldn't soon forget.
She taught herself fencing. Most of the hold lessons came back to her immediately, and what she didn't know she learned from books, and watching the boys fence. By the beginning of the last two months of school, Epée had progressed faster then even she had expected, and challenged each of the boys that had laughed at her individually to a duel. At first, they all refused and called her a silly girl, and she wasn't worth their time.
By the next day, a rumor was flying all over the entire school about how they were all such cowards that they were afraid of one little girl. They all cracked and agreed to an individual duel by the end of the week. Most of the school was in a buzz over it. Well, mostly just the girls. They dared not get their hopes up that Epée would win, but it would certainly be a dynamic blow against the boys for them if she did... The boy's fencing club was still certain they would win.
Epée promptly kicked their collective asses.
Afterwards, she announced that the girl's fencing club was no longer going to be a laughing matter, and that she herself would be taking over. It was only at the end of the year that Epée asked permission for this (which was thankfully granted).
Unfortunately, she had spent so much of the year focusing on fencing, she had neglected her studies. Under normal circumstances, she would have still gotten a passing grade (just barely), but it was still tough. Too tough. The teachers 'suggested' she repeat the 9th grade. Epée would have argued that she could do 10th grade next year, no problem, but she was quite tired of being made fun of for being younger, so she agreed.
Over the next couple of years, Epée trained the girl's fencing club, and made well on her promise that they were no longer no laughing matter. NO ONE messes with the girl's fencing club, now.
Personality:
Epée is a free spirit, to put it lightly. She hates being put into a group, and would prefer to do things on her own. This is because she both hates to rely on other people, and she doesn't trust them to get it right. On the off-chance Epée DOES have to work with others, she will accept no position other then leader. She is perfectly fine with not giving orders, but you've got another thing coming if you think she's going to take them. Needless to say, Epée is strongly individualistic.
Although Epée might make you think you have a chance to change her mind about something, once she makes a decision there is little or nothing you can do to budge her any other way. Though this means fierce loyalty you will never loose once earned, this also means she's exceedingly stubborn. Trying to change Epée's opinion on something is like talking to a wall. If she thinks you're an idiot, then she will forever more think you're an idiot. You become the first rocket scientist? Well, then you're a LUCKY idiot. Even if she is proven wrong over and over, there is almost no chance she will ever back down.
To people she doesn't know, Epée is outwardly very cold and aloof, answering in the shortest amount of words and giving out as little information possible. Epée is quite serious about everything, and expects other people to be the same. That is, if they plan to get anywhere. Needless to say, she doesn't have many (ANY) friends. Especially since she has the bad habit of telling everyone exactly what she thinks of them (Even little fibs to make people feel better still count as 'lies' to her, and in her mind only two kinds of people lie: Cowards, and villains.)
Epée will never start a fight, but that doesn't mean she's a pacifist... it just means that after she's broken their arm in several places, she can just say "It's your own fault." When helping others, she will only fight if they have somehow gained her loyalty, and even then she'd wait until the last possible minute to go in, kick ass, then leave.
Since Epée grew up in France until she came to the school, she has the tendency to start speaking in French when she gets mad. (Thankfully for those who do not speak French, she doesn't get mad very often.) Her heavy french accent is always present, though. One of the reasons why she rarely speaks (she was made fun of for it in her first year at school).
To say that she holds a grudge is the understatement of the century. If someone does something that she thinks deserves retrobution (such as, oh, look at her weird. ^^;) she WILL get revenge. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, maybe 20 years from now you'll be walking along and out of nowhere a piano will drop on your head, but she WILL get revenge... She does not hold grudges, she holds vendettas. "And your little dog, too."
Senshi Stuff
Fuku: Black - Hood, Cloak, Bodice, Gloves, Boots
Dark, almost black turquoise - Mantle, Skirt, First ring on gloves
Silver - Upper band on skirt, Lower band on Bodice, Second band on gloves, Both bands on boots, Scarf on neck
Headband: Every senshi has a headband, circlet, diadem, or other such non-covering headpiece. This is the most unique and distinctive part of your outfit, so go wild, but make it FIT your Eidolon.
Henshin Materia: This is a transparent purple stone, smooth-cut and round, and not engraved in any way. Although it is not casually apparent, if it is held up in the light, an image can be seen, suspended in it as if it were a holographic crystal. (Although none of the characters would know what a hologram is). This image is a static representation of the eidolon who's power it channels.
Henshin: "Odin Eidolon Power! Summons!" No exceptions. Describe, opening position, glitter color, ribbons, sparklies, fish named Fred and frank ANYTHING! Ending pose. Tada!
Challenge: "I am the shield that stops your blade, I am the sabre that cuts you in half, I am Sailor Odin, and I am your end." (Note that whenever possible she leaves off the 'sailor' part... she finds the title rather silly.) or the occassional: "These people are under my protection. Stupid move messing with them."
Weapon: Sword - Uh, it's a wicked lookin sword that could double as an axe, that's about all... most of what it can't cut through it can just plain crush, anyway. It's pretty dang heavy. (though for Odin alone it is as light as a feather.)
Power: 'Steel Bladed Sword' You thought her sword was powerful before? Well wait till you see it NOW. The sword is now sharper then even the best kept Japanese katana, and Odin's accuracy is through the roof... as well as the power behind the attacks. Thankfully, when the sword and Odin are powered up, it is difficult, but still possible to dodge. If a shield is very weak, Odin may just cut right through it and still hit, but if it's even moderately strong, it will stop the attack. The shield might fall after one more hit, but hey, anything is better then being instantly whacked, right?
Guardian: NO ONE! Odin needs no guardian! Odin is strong! Odin is MIGHTY! Odin is- ... okay, okay, so Cid MIGHT help her out... and be a nice kitty and go out of his way to inform her of things when she doesn't show up at meetings, had givin her materia to her, and tell her when the senshi need her help, give her information on the enemy... but that doesn't count as a guardian! Really!
Pictures aren't required, but they make the app pretty ^^. What is required, however, is a writing sample, dialog is a nice touch, the longer the sample the better ^^, it must be about your character, written in novel form, in third person. When it's all done, mail that puppy off to Dum dum dum... The Reviewers
