The Genius 2000 Project is a collaborative art work.
You may join the listserv, send e-mail, send links, or suggestions for Genius 2000 Project events, collaborations, or media actions.
You may wonder why anyone would "join" anyone else's art project. (Obviously, whoever coined the phrase "Genius 2000" will get most of the coin and fame.)
We at the Project are currently working on this very problem.
We have come up with several conclusions:
All art-historical periods end when individual creativity is isolated and collaboration has become impossible.
All new art-historical periods begin when an event or work catalyzes a large group, and transforms individual insight into collaboration or similarity.
The end of every media system is characterized by suspicion and bleakness. The birth of every new media system is characterized by trust and confidence.
Moreover: there is no media activity or culture that does not require us to join in order to benefit in any way, only periods when joining is passive and obscured.
Or, in question form: In order to join the Genius 2000 Project, what would you have to quit?
Lay down your nets and be a fisher of men.
