| WITCHES |
| Witches Written By: Genisis What do we really know about witches? Do they have a different look? Can they do what Sabrina or the Charmed ones can do? Are they green with a hideous wart on the end of their crooked knarled nose? Are they the daughters and sons of Satan? Do they really eat little kids lost in the woods? Unless you are a witch you probably don't know a lot about them (in fact people that are witches don't know a lot on the history) they look just like you and me they are no different than the Christian, Buddhist, or Jewish family next door. No they cannot twitch their nose, snap their fingers or even write a spell to vanquish demons. Witches are no greener than their black cat J as far as warts go and crooked noses it depends on the person, and since Witches, Wiccans or Pagans do not believe in Satan they certainly cannot be a relative. As far as the cannibalism that Hansel and Gretel brought I have one thing to say ewwww!!!! As far back as the puritan times maybe even longer Witches have been accused and prosecuted for horrid wretched things from the neighbors baby dying due to a witches curse to the local farmers cow dying or a mysterious drought being cast upon a small town. Most of these stereo types today are from horror stories told at a campfire, movies and Television shows at the time it's harmless until someone decides they want to become a witch because it looks cool not because they actually respect the religion or how much hard work it is. As many may recall learning, during the puritan times came a period known as "The Burning Times" this time has struck fear in many modern time witches hearts who's to say that all of a sudden the trials won't start again and people will get hung, pressed to death, burnt whatever just because they looked at a person wrong? The times of burning actually began in the 1400's in Europe and spread to the newborn America in the 1600's and lasted until the 1700's. Can anyone really tell me the point of these trials and deaths of innocent people? Anyone who grew herbs even for medicinal purpose (keep in mind the woman had midwives not doctors) were automatically thought to be a witch was tried and killed few were found innocent. Most people remember learning about the Salem Witch Trials where a group of girls who were just being mischievous decided to accuse innocent people of being witches now of course remember that the puritan times were strictly Christian anything other than that was the work of the devil. The most famous of these witches were people like Bridget Bishop who was the fist person hung in Salem in 1692 granted their was only 20 people who were hung or like Cory Giles who was pressed to death. But why? Because these people looked at someone the wrong way? Now I know people are probably saying " This is a different time there is a freedom of religion and killing someone is wrong" well too bad not everyone thinks that way the point of living in America is for the freedoms we have that other countries don't yet witches are still prosecuted today maybe not in a huge group but everyday someone says something bad about a witch such as " Wicca or Pagan is another word for Satan" when in fact in means wise one, there are actually people that put on their websites "Don't bother applying for an award if you have anything offensive, pornography, or have anything to do with Wicca" now I know that people have freedom of speech and that's all good but what happened to everyone's created equal or Freedom of Religion doesn't that mean ANY religion? Witchcraft is just as old as Christianity if not older so you tell me why are people still being discriminated against their choice of religion? |
