| Mark has had an interest in Civil War Reenacting for years and has traveled around the countryside participating in various events. Then, he with the assistance of several people, created the Civil War Reenactment near Danville, IL. Now, several years later, he coordinates the White Hall Civil War Reenactment in White Hall, IL which occurs the first weekend in October. As Mark participated more and more in reenactments, people told him how much he favored General Grant. After several such remarks, Mark bought a uniform similar to Grant's and began to impersonate the great Union leader. He has done this for about 30 years. Portraying General Grant has encouraged Mark to study and research Grant, so he can provide his audiences with true information. Grant may not have been a studious young man, but he excelled in math. He had plans to teach at an all girls' school in Ohio when the war broke out and those plans were changed. His life revealed the fact he was a poor businessman, but he was a great General of the Civil War. Later in life, he proved to be a good, honest man, but his trust in his friends proved to be his downfall as president. Mark would love to speak at church group meetings, military or veteran programs, business conferences, historical society meetings, senior citizen meetings, various youth organizations, schools, living histories, and "school days" at C.W. Reenactments. As long as you are not too far away, he will be quite happy to present you with some Civil War information. He impersonates General Grant or a C. W. surgeon while his wife, Patti, impersonates Grant's wife, Julia, or an Illinois female C. W. soldier, Albert D.J. Cashiers. He has friends who portray a C.W. funeral director, Mark Twain, and much more. Contact him if you would like for him to speak at your event. |
