A True and perfect Inventory and consionable appraisement of the goods & Chattles Rights & Credits which were of Marcks Wortz Sen. late of Conewago Township in the County of Adams Deceased, at the time of his Death Viz.

Clark Register for the Probate of Wills and granting Letters of Administration in & for the County of Adams State of Penns. personally came Daniel Gitt & George Hauck who on their Solomn Oaths do Say that they have well & truely appraised the Several articles in the foregoing Inventory contained to the best of their knowledge & Judgment.

ORDER OF SALE OF THE REAL ESTATE OF MARCUS WORTZ, DECD.


ADAMS COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA; 1833

At an Orphans Court held at Gettysburg for the County of Adams on the twenty Sixth day of November A.D. one thousand eight hundred & thirty two Before John Reed Esquire & his afsociates Judges &c. Afsigned &c.

The Petiton of Jacob Wortz administrator of all & Singular the Goods &c. which were of Marcus Wertz decd. was read to the Court Setting forth that the said intestate left a widow named Elizabeth & Ifsue, Sally intermarried to Michael Riter since dead, Mary intermarried with Jacob Rider, who has since deceased leaving Ifsue, Jacob, David, Michael, Mary, Elizabeth, Catharine of whom David is a minor & two others whoes names to the petitioner is unknown, Jacob the petitioner, Marcus, George, Peter, Henry & Catharine (intermarried to Christian Stouffer) who is since dead. That the personal estate is Insufficient for the payment of his debts as by the account herewith produced. And that the said Intestate died Seized in his demisne as of fee of & in a certain Mefsuage or tract of Land, Situate in McSherrystown Conowago Township Adams County, containing five acres more or lefs on which are erected a one Story log house & log Stable, bounded by the lands of Theresa Owens, Jacob Wertz Anthony Ginter & others. And praying the Court to grant him an Order to make Sale of the said Mefsuage &c. with the appurtenances for the payment of the debts and the maintenance & education of the minor children of said intestate. Whereupon the Court upon the best computation they can make of the value of the property above mentioned do adjudge all the same necefsary for the purposes above mentioned, and do order & decree that the said Administrator expose the Same to Sale by public vendue or outcry on the premises on Wednesday the twenty sixth day of December next, at 12 O Clock M. on the following terms viz. One third of the purchase money to be paid in hand on the Confirmation of the Sale, & the residue in two equal annual payments thereafter, without Interest. And the Court do further direct that before any such Sale is made, notice thereof be given agreeably to the intestate laws of this Commonwealth, & that the said Admr. do make return of his proceedings hereinto the next orphans Court after the Sale so made.

To the Judges within named
I certify that by virtue of the within order I exposed the premises within mentioned to sale at public vendue at the time mentioned after having given due and truly notice thereof, and think the same off to George Wortz for the Sum of Seven hundred and one dollars payable in three equal installments at the price and the first day payment next and then annually - which sale I pray may be confirmed - his the highest price bid at the Sale.

Whereupon the Court upon the best computation they can make, do adjudge the building lot in "Troxells' addition" to the Borough of Gettysburg, on West Middle Street, being the one first named in the petition - also - the three lots containing four or five acres each adjoining lands of Walter Smith - named in said petiton - Also - the three acre lot lying between Middle Street & the Middletown Road, in said Borough, - in the said petition also named as proposing to be sold - And do order and direct that the same be exposed to sale by public outcry or vendue (due notice of the time and place having been first given according to law by the said Administrator.) On Saturday the second day of march next, on the premises - the purchase money to be pd. as follows - to wit the one third in hand and the residue in two equal annual payments.
