WILL OF AGNES RITER


LANCASTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA WILL BOOK C (p.374); 16 FEBRUARY 1776


In the Name of God Amen. I Agnes Riter Widow of Michael Riter of Cocalico Township deceased, being weak in Body, but of perfect Mind and Memory, Thanks be to God, but remembering the Mortality of my Body, do make this Twenty fifth Day of January Anno 1776 this my last Will and Testament. First it is my Will that all my just Debts and Funeral Expenses be paid out of my Estate by my Executor. Further I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Hoh junior my Bedd with all Bed-clothing thereto belonging. Item I give and bequeath to her the Sum of Eighty Pounds Pennsylvania Currency. Item I give to her a black silk Handlwiching. And I further ordain, that as she is lame, Conrad Eifsenhart of York County be her Guardian, which shall take Care that the said Legacy be appropriated to no other but her Use, and what is residue thereof at her Death I ordain to be divided among the other Children of Martin Hoh and Elizabeth his Wife, share alike. To Elizabeth, Wife of Martin Hoh I give and bequeath ten Shirts, a new Cotton Fillyceal, a pair of Shoes a Prayer Book and five Pounds Flax Yarn. To Dorothea Sharffenbarger I give and bequeath the Sum of Thirty Pounds Money aforesaid under Condition that she shall give to Martin Hoh who is indebted to her for Sixteen Pounds, a lawful Discharge for said Sixteen Pounds. Further do I give to her five Shirts an Apron Handkerchief all my Pork Meat Butter Meal, a Flannel Short-Gown, my Bible she shall have during her Life; and after her Death the said Bible shall be Property of Michael Riter. To Michael Riter I give and bequeath my Cow and all my Sheep, and to his Daughter Magdalena I give and bequeath two Pewter Trenchers. To Philip Hefft I give and bequeath the Sum of Five Pounds Money aforesaid, his Sons shall have my Bee hiaves and his Daughter Magdalena shall have my Smoothing Iron and a small Iron Pott. To Juliana Ream I give and bequeath a Pewter Plate and two Pewter Trenchers. The Residue of my Cloth I give and bequeath to Anna Maria the Wife of Michael Stivens. If I should be under a Necefsity to apply some of my Estate to my bodily Subsistence, I order that then my Estate not being sufficient to answer for all such Legacy that of the Monies herein mentioned shall be made a proportionable Deduction. To Martin Hoh I give and bequeath the Sum of Eighty Pounds, and as he is by a certain Bond indebted to me for said Eighty Pounds, I order my Executors to return him said Bond. All said Legacies in Money my Executor shall pay when he has received all my Debts and settled my Estate. The Residue of my Estate not disposed herein, I give and bequeath to my Sister Dorothea Sharffenberger. Finally do I constitute and ordain Executor of this my last Will my loving Friend Adam Neis. In Witnefs whereof I have set to these Presents my Hand and Seal, the Day and Year first above written.

Lancaster County fs. On the Sixteenth Day of February Anno Dom. 1776 Before me the Subscriber personally appeared Joseph Heffly and Jacob Keller, the two Subscribing Witnefses to the above Will and on their Solemn Affirmations according to Law did severally declare and say that they were present and saw and heard Agnes Riter the Testatrix above-named, sign seal publish pronounce and declare the above Writing as and for her last Will and Testament and that at the doing thereof she was of sound and well disposing Mind Memory and Understanding to the best of their Knowledge Observation and Belief.

Be it Remebered that on the Sixteenth Day of February AD 1776, the last Will and Testament of Agnes Riter late of Cocalico Township in the County of lancaster Widow deceased was proved in due Form of Law and Letter Testamentary thereon was granted to Adam Nees the Executor therein named he being first duly qualified well and truly to administer the Estate of the Decedent and to exhibit a true and perfect Inventory thereof into the Registers Office at Lancaster on or before the Sixteenth Day of May next and to render a true and just Account of his Administration on the said Estate when thereto lawfully required. Given under the Seal of the said Office.
