Extracurricular Activities
Participated in several social events held by the club, and helped
to integrate foreign exchange students into the high school community.
Learned the importance of cultural awareness.
Spent three years as a member and an additional year as an officer of the
French Club, the largest on my high school campus. As “Commissioner of Club
Affairs,” I helped to organize several social events, most notably the club's
four seasonal luncheons. These luncheons required coordinating local restaurant delivery and students’ voluntary food
preparation and finally serving 150+ students during the lunch break.
Named the "Most Valuable Member" of the French Club in 2003.
Participated in several service-oriented projects, as well as
organizing and leading a long-term project (approximately eight months) , connecting pairs of “pen pals”: a
senior-level high school “mentor” with a sixth grade student at a local
elementary school.
Contributed to social and academic programs presented by the
CHP as well as initiated two programs to foster a spirit of community in one
of the CHP dorms.
Grew in leadership status over the past four years from Sunday School assistant
to Sunday School teacher;
developed/presented curriculum to a class of second and third graders and,
more recently, students at the intermediate/high school level; served during a
missions trip to Mexico. Learned
organization and skills in public speaking and leadership.
Assisted in classes at VBS before assuming a teaching role;
learned the importance of cultivating values through demonstration rather than
oral instruction, and gained leadership and conflict management
skills.
Developed a curriculum for a group of peers and facilitated
discussion. Learned planning and leadership, as well as methods of fostering
communication.
