This is the training room of the Cadets of Gelan. Youngsters who want to prepare for life as a warrior often spend time as a cadet here under the watchful eye of Xorfin, the guild's founder. The guild tax is 8%. If you wish to join you may , but you should read all the topics of first. Cadets can and various skills here, and can also a primary and secondary offensive skill. To train offensive skills such as sword, polearm, unarmed combat etc. you will have to choose a primary and secondary offensive skill. You will be able to train your primary offensive skill to superior journeyman and your secondary offensive skill to confident journeyman, while other offensive skills will be limited to superior layman. The guild also offers a special attack ability called "donk" which grows in effectiveness as your skills and stats increase. > help cadet alignment Alignment ========= This guild is neutral, even though the town of Gelan is good aligned (the town is allied to the Calian warriors, although it is politically independent). The school of Gelan teaches ethics as one of many other courses. Anyone wishing to become a guard or member of the territorial army would have to take that course and prove themselves to not be in opposition to the moral code of the town, as well as graduate from the cadets. But the cadet guild does not teach any moral values or political system, just some basic rules. > help cadet commands Cadet emotes: ------------- cbite, cborn, cburp, cfist, chand, cimit, cjump, clisten, cobserve, cno, cplan, cpresent, cpush, cready, csalute, cscrut, csidle, cstand, cstudy, cyawn, cyes Don't ask me "What do they do?!" The same goes for killing a Guard of Gelan or a Citizen of Gelan. An attack without a kill does not currently invoke a penalty. There are no restrictions or penalties for a Graduate killing a Graduate, because such fights are considered wholly outside the influence of the Cadets of Gelan guild. Your title is calculated from a range of factors. The first of these is the skill level that you have attained for each skill that you can train here (except for offensive skills that you did not select as primary or secondary). The second is your experience as a cadet i.e. how much progress you have made since you joined. The third is your contribution to the armoury. It is possible to graduate without making armoury contributions if you are a very experienced member of the guild. It is also possible to graduate if you join the guild late and cannot gain much experience before you have to leave, but you will have to compensate for the lack of experience with a relatively large contribution to the armoury. -- More -- 20/25 -- ( t b r n a q x ! h ?) -- On graduating you will receive the award of a golden star ring, which is a permanent memento. You will also have access to guild's rooms, although you will no longer be awarded points for armoury contributions. > help cadet history History ======= The town of Gelan is in a state of military alertness due to the threat posed by the sorcerer Kroug, and to a lesser extent brigands. The mayor recently ordered that the youths of the town be given basic military training at the end of their studies in the school of Gelan to provide a strong basis for the local Territorial Army (part-time reserves), Guards of Gelan (occupational) and conscription, in the event of all-out war. Youths from foreign lands were also offered the chance to benefit from the training in order to strengthen diplomatic links. The Cadets of Gelan is the name for the organisation created within the school to carry out this training. Among the abilities targeted for improvement are general fighting skills, self discipline, teamwork and resilience. A veteran from the last great battles, Xorfin, was appointed as leader and instructor. There are no plans to make guilds based on the territorial army or guards. > help cadet joining Joining and Re-joining ====================== Anyone below the level of veteran may join, provided they aren't a member of a layman or occupational guild and they haven't previously been a cadet more than once. If you want to re-join after being booted out or leaving once, you may do so as long as you are still below the level of veteran, but you will have to pay a penalty of thirty levels of combat skills. The levels will be automatically removed on your re-joining. However, if you were expelled for killing a fellow cadet and s/he s you in the training room, you may re-join for a smaller penalty of fifteen levels of combat skills. > help cadet leaving Leaving ======= There are no penalties for leaving although, as already mentioned, there are if you want to re-join later. Note that there is a global feature called skill decay that means if you train your skills higher than the levels offered in adventurer guilds, they will decay unless you are in a guild that offers training up to your current levels. So, keep this in mind when you train your skills, because when you leave the cadets some of your skills may decay unless you join another guild that supports them. Leaving is easy though and can be done anywhere in the game. Cadets who grow to veteran or above are removed from the guild, since they have outgrown the cadet system. Those who have reached the title of Learned by the time they leave will be rewarded with a golden star ring as a memento, whether they leave by choice or from outgrowing the guild. > help cadet protection Protection ========== As cadets are students without much experience in the field, they are not expected to put their lives at risk by entering combat to protect the locals of the town, such as Xorfin, guards or citizens. The guards carry out the task of protecting the town's citizens, which includes all of the shopkeepers. Xorfin, in addition to his role as teacher, guards the cadet guild, and having extensive experience and success in combat, prefers that the other guards dedicate themselves to protecting the rest of the town. > help cadet rules Rules ===== All cadets are expected to consider carefully when and when not to use the "kill" and "assist" commands. This is the central rule of the guild. Only in the following circumstances may a cadet attack a fellow cadet: - the combat was started by both cadets using the or commands or - the attacked cadet was punished for attacking a fellow cadet during his/her current login (this allows other cadets to assist in fighting off an aggressor without being punished). The penalty for attacking outside these circumstances is to lose the ability to donk for a few days. This is cumulative, i.e. further illegal attacks will increase the ban. Only in the following circumstances may a cadet kill a fellow cadet: -- More -- 20/34 -- ( t b r n a q x ! h ?) -- - the combat was started by both cadets using the command (_not_ the cbrawl command) or - the attacked cadet was punished for attacking a fellow cadet during his/her current login. The penalty for killing a fellow cadet outside these circumstances is expulsion from the guild. An attack on a citizen or guard of Gelan who did not attack the cadet first will be punished in the same way as an attack on a fellow cadet. Killing a citizen or guard of Gelan who did not attack the cadet first will be punished in the same way as killing a fellow cadet. > help cadet welcome Welcome ======= "Well, this has got to be the softest bunch of novices I've ever laid eyes on. You lot couldn't arm-wrestle pixies! Where are you from lass? Sparkle? To my knowledge only two things come out of Sparkle, hairy rats and frightened mice. Now you don't look tough enough to be a hairy rat, so what does that make you? I beg your pardon? Insubordination, eh. The penalty for contradicting a drill sergeant is fifty pushups. Go! One, two, three... ... is that all?! My word, training you lot is going to be harder than I thought. Back in my day we had to be REAL warriors! We camped using rocks for pillows, survived on broccoli, water and dried beef and made do with only our trusty donk in battle. Not like the fighters of today, sleeping on soft beds, fed on rich food and beer and showing off with fancy combat maneuvers like sting, solar and pulp, or whatever they call them. Now's not the time for high living or glory, cadets, but time to find out what you're really made of!" - Xorfin -- More -- 20/21 -- ( t b r n a q x ! h ?) -- > learn These are the skills you are able to learn one step here.
