Long Live The King!

An ancient prophecy from birth
Ready to destroy your whole world
Slay your father, lay your mother
A fate laid upon no other

Bound hand and foot, left alone to die
Rescued by the kind hand of a passer-bye
Played into condemnation's hand,
Crushed when the tallest you stand

Runaway from home to save the people you love
Run towards destiny, a choice you don't have
You run blind, trying to avert your fate
You don't even know, what a mistake you're about to make

Dare to anger me, test my wrath
Don't care who you are, I'll kill you where you stand
I'm running away from destiny, nothing will stop me
I'm running from the future, I'm running towards destiny

Answer my question, foolish mortal, lest I slay thee
What walks on four, two, three?
The answer's a man, now capitulate, Sphinx
For I am, Oedipus the King

The king is dead, hail to the king,
I am the king, long live the king
Hail to me, Oedipus the King
Long Live The King!

Plague from the gods, a plague from Apollo
Only you can save us, Oedipus
I feel your pain, I know your torment
With the Oracle's bidding returns Creon

What news, brother, what causes all this death?
The murderer of King Laius goes unpunished
Exact justice, and the city will be free
O King Oedipus, save the City of Thebes

Now hear this, my royal decree
Banish this murderer, cleanse the City of Thebes
I myself have summoned the prophet Tiresias
To help save the city of Oedipus

Tiresias, messenger, prophet, we beseech thee for aid
To rid our beloved city of this plague
Help us if you can, do all in your power
Save us from the pestilence that so covers us
Tell us the murderer of King Laius

My King, the future is mine to see
Its secrets understood by me
And I pray you, do not make me divulge the truth
For it shall smite down mighty Oedipus

What, fool, you dare defy your king
And condemn your whole city?
Answer me now, lest my rage be released
Tell us the murderer, save the City of Thebes

My King, you know not what you ask
The secrets of the future acted out in the dark
Do not make me say what you want me to
For it shall smite down mighty Oedipus

Dog, have you no loyalty to your king?
Blind man, what good did you do against the Sphinx?
Conspiracy between you and Creon, to usurp me
Away from me, Tiresias, lest I slay thee!

You call me blind, when you are the blind one
Your crimes are like none under the sun
I'll give you the truth, no matter how awful
For it shall smite down mighty Oedipus
You are the murderer, you have killed Laius
And Jocasta, the woman you take to bed every night
Is more than just your wife
The offspring of your seed are bitterly cursed, and so are you
For she bore you, and she bore your children, too
You call me blind, but you, my King, are blinded from the truth
For it shall smite down mighty Oedipus

The king is dead, hail to the king,
I am the king, long live the king
Hail to me, Oedipus the King
Long Live The King!

Hail, Oedipus, son of fortune, king of not
Your pride lames you, blinded by your wrath
On the edge of the cliff of truth, look down and you will see
What fate lies for the king of Thebes

Oedipus, my husband and my lord
Pay no heed to the words of the blind wanderer
For I heard prophecies that my son would slay Laius
When indeed he was slain by bandits

Soft, darling, for there may be truth in the prophecy
For I did kill one at the place where three roads meet
And I ran away so that I would not disgrace my parents
And I fear that I may have murdered old King Laius

But hark, here comes one with news
Hail Oedipus, rest in piece does Polybus
The people of Corinth now bid you
To come and rule, Oedipus

Ha! Where are you now, divine prophecy?
Oedipus has no reason to fear thee
For the man he has strained to avoid is dead
By a natural death, and no act of his

Well, well.... what say you of the Oracles, wife?
Living in fear all these years I should take my father's life
Now in his grave he lies, touched by no mortal weapon
So much for the Oracle's prophecy, then.
But I feel a chill come over me
For I can never be safe as lives Merope.

Hail King Oedipus, thine fears have no foundation
Return to Corinth, exalt in your coronation
For Polybus and Merope were of no relation
To you - delight in your fear's negation.
For many years ago, a shepherd of Laius
Gave me a child, which I gave to Polybus
By the scars on his feet, he was named Oedipus

No - no, this cannot be of truth!
While there is still time, do what is good -
Call off this investigation, I beg of you
For it shall smite down mighty Oedipus

Why, Jocasta, when the answers are finally here?
Justice is justice, we should have nothing to fear
Your pride will remain intact, I swear that to you
But I will know who I am, for I am Oedipus

The king is dead, hail to the king,
I am the king, long live the king
Hail to me, Oedipus the King
Long Live The King!

You, old man, step forward, and answer what I ask
A long time ago, into your hands a baby passed
Now answer me quick and answer me true
Who gave it to you?

No, master, I beg, I beg, I plead with thee
Don't ask for any more to be revealed
These are places no one should look
For it shall smite down mighty Oedipus

Answer me now, dog, or face death
No matter what you say, I will be answered
Now answer me, or else your life you'll lose
Who gave it to you?

Then, my king, I relent and tell all
Under duress so grave
The child came, the child came
From the house, from the house, of Laius

A slave, or born of his own blood?
A prince, or a vagabond?
Curiousity draws me in deep
I must know, all shall be revealed

Oh no, my king, ask no more!
I have no choice, but to divulge
I'm right at the edge, the horrible truth
For it will smite down mighty Oedipus

And I'm right at the edge of hearing horrors
But I have no choice, I must know more
Now answer me again, tell me the truth
Who gave it to you?

All right, my king! You shall know
That the child was that of Laius
But the one inside will tell it best
The one you call your wife

Jocasta, who just now fled within?
Did she give you the child?
How feebly your head drops when nodding
Tell me, tell me - why?

She gave me the child to slay
Her old child, yes, but she had cause to be afraid
Frightning prophecies stole her mother's joy
So she gave me her little baby boy

Hold, shepherd, hold a moment
Frighting prophecies, you said,
What, what were they?
Tell me all - hold nothing within

What she so feared was in what the Oracle told
That her son would kill his father and marry his mother
So to prevent the crime, she gave me the boy
But as I walked, I pitied the little fellow
And gave him to my friend
Hoping to save him from his fate
But if you are the man, believe me when I speak the truth
You were born for pain
And it shall smite down mighty Oedipus

The king is dead, hail to the king,
I've killed the king, now I am king
Hail to me, Oedipus the King
Long Live The King!

Oh God! All come true, all burst to hateful light!
And now, now, look your last, eyes
In my birth - cursed! In my marriage - cursed!
Revealed after all these years, now we know the truth
It has struck down mighty Oedipus!

The king is dead, hail to the king,
I've killed the king, now I am king
Hail to me, Oedipus the King
Long Live The King!

Yeah! Whooooo-hooooo! Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeyahahahahahaha!!!
