In The End

In the beginning was the Word
That moved across the sea
Over a dark and desolate Earth
That was the beginning of history

And the Word watched and saw
How life began and died
Man's inhumanity to man
The thirst for power never satisfied

And the Word beheld a broken Earth
Torn apart by one man's god
Separated by colour at birth
Any reason for world war

And as time went by, the Word saw more
Of a world gone bad
And when the most horrendous of evils was glorified
The Word closed its eyes

And the Word said, Let us not behold this any more
A creation gone wrong
And the Word shed a tear, for what started so pure
Was now so long gone

And the Word said, Let us create anew
Salvage what we once tried
And the Word started again
But for a new creation, the old had to die

And so the Word decreed, Let there be no more light
Let all the life on our planet die
And so there was forever more, darkness eternal
That heralded the end of the world

And the Word said, If they wage war, let war be their end
And so it was, that war destroy men
Nations set against nations, children against parents
Brothers become enemies, allies made from strangers

And the Word decided, Let this world we created die out
But let us teach ourselves a lesson as well
And so, death, disease, famine broke out
That killed millions, the guilty and the innocent

And the Word commanded, Let the planet known as Earth
Die in the most terrible of ways
For these were our children, and as learned Montague and Capulet
The birth of tommorrow means the death of today

And the Word ordered, Let the gates of hell be opened
And let man reap what he chooses to sow
And the Abyss was unleashed, the bottomless pit of Hades
The home of all evil souls

And the Word watched, and said, Let this be for a time
And on the seventh day, there was no more rest
The holy day became a day of slaughter 'till the blood rose high
And washed the bones, and whatever was left

And the Word whispered, Let us no more behold this carnage
And with the drop of a tear, washed away the planet Earth
And the drop of the tear turned into a stream, a river
That grew, and reformed until it became an ocean
A lifeless body, only wind and waves
And darkness reigned again,
Over a dark and desolate Earth
Watched by a single entity.
This was the end of history.

In the end was the beginning
The beginning of everything

The return of the silence.
