The Enemies Within

When a man lies he murders part of the world
When we treat our friends like this, it's a painful lesson we learn
There is a better place for me, I know there must be
But not in this world, there is no place to see

Do you found your love on hate?
Is this a question that is a mistake?
Do you harbour hatred in your hearts?
Or is it my error to ask?

You are not all like so, I know this to be true
But how can I not listen, to words that profess to be?
Coming from inside, I wish I knew
I wish I knew the answers, to save me from uncertainty

To base your life on death
A struggle for which you would give your life
The reward being eternal deliverance
The punishment being forever to vilify

Why don't they understand, you are not my enemy?
Is it that difficult to see?
The actions of a few speak not for the majority
And yet the reason for the vengeance is the death of the many

Death rains from the sky, the birds of death strike hard
Taking so many innocent lives, how can this be allowed to be?
Where were You for them then? For those You saved,
What of the ones not to live?

In a time when we need to hold hands
This is not the time to take the warring stance
In a time when we need to be together
We cannot afford to justify our slaughter

We see the enemies within ourselves
And bringing out to light makes them even darker
If only we knew the true answers that lie out there
We'd stop making enemies of those any nearer

Can't we understand one another,
Or are we all closed in by our belief?
Is it impossible to touch someone else
Or are we with-held by what we believe?

I hear the call to arms being sounded
I hear the call to prayer around
You will die for yours, who am I then?
I'm someone left behind with my own imperfections

I hear the clarion call for vengeance
I see the signs of megadeath
I am an eyewitness to destruction
I am one of the chosen ones
I hear the baying of the dogs of war
I see the blood upon holy ground
I see the end of the world as it stands
I see the end of the world by my own hands

I am the enemy within

Don't make me take sides; I'll lose either way.
