(Footnote 2) ‘Fair Trade’ is used here to describe collectively various organizations (the majority in Europe) that may or may not be associated with one another; among them TransFair, FairTrade Foundation, Cafedirect, Max Haavelar, Equal Exchange, European Fair Trade Association. The common principle and means of operating for all groups under Fair Trade are that they buy products directly from producer co-operatives in developing countries and offer these products to consumers at a premium price - with cash and other benefits passed to the producers.
