I was watching TPM the other day and I remembered about this part that I find really interesting. Okay, everyone knows by now that Padme, when she was on Tatooine, was really the queen. Well, lots of people don't understand why the Jedi didn't notice this. Well, I think he does. When QG and Padme are getting on that platform thing and Padme starts going on about Q-G being reckless he calls her "handmaiden." Could this have been a threat? Like him saying "I know you're not who you say you are but if you want anything done you're going to have to show your athority" I mean, because she was the queen she was relatively used to people agreeing with her, and because she had to pretend to be a servant she suddenly had to agree with everyone else, and if she wanted to get her way she would have to blow her cover. It was a trap she laid for herself.
In the novelization of TPM too, Q-G notices something strange about Padme and the queen. I don't remember exactly what he was thinking during the Pod scene but when they were leaving Naboo and the queen says, "Leaving would pose great danger, to us all" (wording may not be exact) and the handmaiden answers, "we are brave, Your Highness" Qui-Gon gets confused about who is accually deciding the leave, the servant or the master. It continues to confuse him throughout the book, and most likely the movie too. |
